think the point he is making is your giving him a big story that he doesnt really give a feck about and asking for an item that isnt even mentioned, i get that too sometimes and its a bit like WTF when people ask?! dont think he means it offensively :-)

regarding the engineer bit thats uncalled for i know the "odd civillian" that turns out outstanding detailed stuff to perfection as its a labour of love not a job and you just landed yourself in it with the "evaluating parts better" bit as you got the wrong pump!

chill dude relax were all here as we like polos.

i am sorry but puting a 2nd hand water pump on your car is like puting a 2nd hand timing belt on.. its not cost afective.. and it dose not matter if your an "engineer"that dose not mean f all and dose not make you eny better at "evaluating parts"

no a belt is in no way simlar, a second hand belt is a ridiculous idea i agree. but so long as all the fins are in tact and the bearings feel good there good to go. why els would they come with a service oiling hole in the shaft? some think its a heat expansion hole but if that was the case it would be solid bar as it would be easier to manufacture, water pumps are simple bits of kit. unlike peugeot tesioners the bearings do not retain the pulley and are in no danger of the timing belt sliping if the bearings go so if it does not have sideways movements, spins freely wth all fins in tact its good and probably 35 quid cheaper so with some simple evaluation it can be cost efective and enviromentaly friendly.
