McLOVIN's right his is really a good option, just wait for a while its not going to kill you. If they dont pay for the insurance then you will have to, so then you wont even be able to afford any parts. Honestly at uni you will probably be skint all the time and well want money for alcohol and forget about the car so much. If you want to do something, get a good stero and some nice front speakers, then your sorted i reckon.

Save your money and be extremly grateful your parents paid for it.

I can almost guarantee that in a year or two you will want something with more power and well for the same price as the polo you can buy quite a few things which have lots more power. Then the money you spent on the polo is going to seem a bit of a waste.

When i was 17 in 1991 i had to pay £900 for my car plus £600 for my insurance,having already paid £400 getting my licence. I earned £4 an hour.

How things have changed, i have a job at boots, had to pay £1100 for the car, then I've spent like £200 on a few things and repairs. £1700 for insurance. It proper depresses me that its soo expensive and seeing all that money out of my account. But driving the car does make up for it :) I wish my parents would pay for my insurance - infact i wouldnt let them!!

It was more expensive then - a studio flat here cost 16k and a can of coke was 25p, the same flat now cost 90k and the can is three times.

I was on 8k a year full time,the same job today would pay near 20k even in this climate (times were very hard then too,with a massive recession and interest rates pushing 15% over the following year).

So i paid equivalent of about 2,500 for my car, 1500 for insurance and over a grand for the licence. Outright,without finance. At 17. It taught me a thing or two.

I wouldnt mod it. You need to respect his decision as he is paying for the insurance after all. If you want to mod it, now your working.. pay for it yourself if you canta fford to you need to respect his decision I'm afraid.

Perhaps i felt my original post lacked a certain intelligence without the criticism of grammar.

My parents paid for my 1st years insurance when i passed my test. I even had the car pigeon for me (mk2 1043cc bready). This was only because they opened a savings account when i was born and put a little in each month up to my 18th birthday which i'm eternally grateful for as i'd never have had enough cash to buy and insure a car otherwise only earning £60 a week! I didnt modify it externally but added a stereo and afew halfords spec lights and waited until i was paying my own way until i changed the wheels, exhaust etc.

Sounds to me like you've either gotta grin and bare it being standard or find a job that'll fit in with your studies to pay your insurance.

Wait til you get to uni, sell the car for cash and tell your parents some drunk students stole it, then get yourself a car you can fit more drugs and drunk hookers in. Is there really any other way?

my car is almost standard appearance wise all i've is a couple of stickers and a £30 set of golf alloys then whacked a bigger carb on it hid it under the standard airbox and noone is any the wiser

Save your money dude, you may need to fork out shit loads of cash on it for it's next MOT. Won't be any good on pimp ass wheels that aren't allowed to hit the road.

If you don't need to spend money opn keeping it on the road then all the better. Then after a year you will be all the happier with some spare dosh you can afford to blow on the car's looks
