Its funny that just a few nyears ago people wouldn't have bothered restoring polo's, more just dropping engines and chassis. Now we're seeing more resto jobs like this. Love it. Thats why I'm having to stay my hand with the 'loon, and keeping original parts so i can return it to standard if needs be.

My plan is to get the pin strips re-fitted. Now its all road legal, I can drive it to a signs and graphics place to get a proper quote for the work. I have had 2 places say they will happily take it on though, one of which we use at work, so I know the standard of work is good.

Oh let me know how that goes... That one of the things I was debating.. I think I'm going leave off the side rubbing strips but I think the Pinstrip would be nice to have on.. as it was the 80/90's thing to do :)

So, got a little bit more done yesterday, with finishing touches.

Upon my drive from my lock up to start using the car since its been taxed and insured this month, I noticed a horrible vibration and grumbling at motorway speeds. I suspected rear wheel bearings, so ordered a pair at work to keep me occupied this weekend.

With my car being standard height as well, one thing that was bugging me was the over-spray on the suspension and inner arches, so I pressure washed off what I could, keyed up the inner arches with some red scotch pads and sprayed on some underbody sealant. Rumour has it the stuff I used is what they use on gritter trucks, so hopefully it'll ensure a bit of longevity for the car now its been welded, etc.

I also ran some maths on fuel economy to see how my tweeks with the carb had gone. The result is 39.6MPG, which for a 26 year old car, not running fuel injection, and a 4 speed gearbox is quite impressive!

Next will be sorting out stickers and vinyl trims. I called in at a graphics place on my way to my lock-up and tried to get a price from them for making up some 'Coupe S' pinstripes. They reckoned they might not have enough stripes in to do the car, and as not many people are having stripes put on their cars these days, and he's unlikely to get more in. He was gonna take stock and let me know if he could do it.

Also ordered some vinyl stickers like whats used on the B-pillars for around the rear screen. I'm just waiting on that to arrive, and then I can take the rear screen out and get that done.

Then comes upgrades... :biggrin:.

Theres Blue Print signs and graphics in Nottingham, or theres a place literally just up the road from my work who are based in Kevin Riley Motorsport's building.

I'm waiting to hear back from Blue Print to see if they can get the thickness and colours of stripe I'm after, as they reckon its harder to come by now, with fewer people pinstriping their cars.

Thank you :-). I look forward to the possibility of getting them together at a show. Wheel wise, I'm not sure really. This is a practical car when compared to my Mark3, so whilst theres a great temptation to stick some nice wide wheels on there, the fact I can carry rear seat passengers, might mean I stick with the steels and beauty rings a bit longer. I do have my 13 x 6 RAs from my Mark3 that I could put on it once I've renewed the tyres, or I could get my Ronal R8s refurbed and fit those. Hmmmm....

Thanks Gaz. Its surprised me how nippy it is. I've ordered a new clutch cable for it though to help alleviate some of those creaks you heard .

I definitely think subtle and practical is the way things will be going with this one. I have my semi-stripped out GT for something to chuck about a bit.

It took a lot longer than anticipated, as the ball joints for the tie rods were seized in the old struts, and the rear dampers... Well the less said about them the better .

Ok, so that was a bit too easy .

But yeah, had the vinyl made up and fitted to replicate the original that I removed many, many moons ago to repair and repaint the tailgate.

Fingers crossed, next week the 'Coupe S stripes' will be back :biggrin:

I'll also be raising the front end up, and swapping the springs, as I can't get on with how harsh the ride is. I must be getting old .

I think it looks quite smart going around the edges. Its a 3 piece vinyl :-).

The screen did have to come out, yeah. Its a doddle to do though. The hardest part was unbonding the rear spoiler where I'd bonded it.

think i do all my vinal when i rebuild it then make life easyier. looks much better with it on mind
