Yeah it is quite loud tbh but doesn't bother me too much I just use it during daylight hours so I don't wind up and annoy the neighbours and I'm looking at getting an air receiver tank to add to it to double the air storage so longer in between the compressor chiming on

    right best do a bit of an update no pictures though unfortunately as still no laptop currently building the car up for a full mock up and making sure everything fits and clearance for whats needed.

I'm sure they have a duty cylce too, to stop them burning out.

You could make an insulating box? Sound deading in a wooden box etc?

right small update with some plans

basically as most are aware I'm turboing my afh I'm going to be running it on G40 digifant

on its way to me is a G40 ecu and wiring Loom and knock sensor just need to source the rest of the sensors for this

also have a K03s on its way to me too but it needs a rebuild and a new compressor wheel will also get a forge adjustable wastegate actuator for it

i need to work out what size decomp plate i will need as I'm aiming to drop the C.R. to 9:1 once i work this out i can get it ordered

also need to get a thermostatic oil sandwich plate to run an oil cooler for the engine will be running braided lines

i am also going to run the turbo on a separate oil system so it always has clean oil that way i can also use some thinner turbo specific oil for this setup i will have a seperate mini 1l oil tank, oil cooler and will use my current facet pump as it will no longer be needed for the injection side to pump the oil round the turbo setup this will helpfully give the turbo a better longevity and also keep it cooler as it wont be getting any heat from the engine.

i will be making an inlet manifold by butchering a standard one for the flange and then my choices are i eithermate it to a 20vt manifold as it has the correct shape for equalising out the pressure evenly into the cylinders or i can make my own plenum chamber i know it needs to have at least 3l of volume

i have a throttle body to use from a 2l v6 vauxhall i am going to use with a bore of 68mm i have ported it by maching the inside at work for a smoother flow.

for the exhaust manifold i have 2 of these 20vt ones so I'm going to modify one to fit the afh and if it fooks up i have a spare to use but it shouldnt and if it works i will adapt the other and sell it on for someone else to use

i will try and add another update tomoz with pictures as everybody loves pictures :)

Sounds like its coming along nicely. What do you intend to do about the 6psi switch (where will you place it) and the closed throttle switch? Also, how are you mounting the knock senso, does the AFH have the stub like some of the other small blocks?

Don't forget to factor in your HG thicknesses when calculating comp ratios :)

I will be putting the 6psi switch in the inlet manifold plenum for the closed switch the vauxhall throttle body has a 3 wire throttle position sensor which will be closed and what so i can just use the closed loop of it with the 6 psi switch to control fueling

the afh block has a knock sensor which it uses as standard anyway so i can put the G40 one on there

harris do you know the thickness of a compressed HG i know you asked a while ago did you find out i have been using a thickness of 0.5mm for the calculator which is coming in saying i need a decomp plate of 1.5mm thickness

faraday engineering decomp plates only use one hg and a sealant for the other side

I've got a couple of used hg's here Pete, if i can work out which is the afh one I will take it to work tomorrow and measure it for you

That would be great if you could measure one for me Guy please and Harris as guy said you only use one HG between block and decomp plate as you use a high temperature non setting gasket for between the decomp plate and the head

not getting a ferriday one either as they are like well over £100 but i can get one from germany for the later 1.4 engine for £45 posted to my door :)

yeah i know most of them there is 3 main ones which are vac before butterfly, vac after butterfly and the other big one is where the crankcase breather goes to

the rest i dont need to worry about

Used HG is measuring up at .46mm mate :thumbsup:

Info for my own reference copied from my other thread answers courtesy of Andy.

sensors i need for G40 management:

Air temp, coolant temp, closed and full throttle switches, MAP, CO pot, knock sensor, lambda and distributor hall sender.

CO pot and knock sensor are G40 specific.

Dizzy can be a GT one too, and most 6Ns have the same trigger wheel pattern as the GT/G40 item as well so can be used instead.

Blue temp sensor and lambda aren't G40 specific.

What did you do to that TB pete?

Won't help get any more air through as the throttle butterfly is still the same size as before. Why don't you drill yourself up a larger butterfly and machine out the rest of the housing? :-)

i didnt do that to increase flow it was cast surface inside so i machined it to clean that up and make it all smooth and its not a flat bottom step its chamfered into the butterfly and at some point i will make a larger and machine it all the way through bigger but its not important atm and I've got other stuff i need to make

i will start making my turbo manifold next week going to make a log style one and also turn my two afh pulleys into verniers ready for the decomp plate and need to adapt my new adjustable rose jointed tcas to fit my the golf hubs

With your skills, i wouldn't hinder it with a log type. Get welding up a proper split pulse runner type, get plenty of stainless pipe, bends etc.
