Best way ;) I might hit you up if you fancy machining some bits for me ;)

I usually use a company work uses and get bits on the side but he takes forever and is very unreliable. Do you prefer replica's to make from or Solidworks drawings?

Edited by Mattnaz

  • Author

I can work from whatever mate prefer a replica as its easier to hold and visualise but no real bother either way and yeah anything you want send me a pm me and we can sort it out mate

Highly reccomend petes machining work to anyone, I've had a few bits along with 90 percent of my running gear off him. Top lad to deal with, reccomended seller/fabricator haha.

also took the windscreen out trying to do it carefully without damaging the the seal as its a genuine vw that cost me £50 odd last year and cracked the f'ing screen which was also brand new last november :( so i kicked the fucker out so i can get to more places around the front easier now and gusset the side of the windscreen a pillars to the front cage

thats this weekends work and slowly building up alot of work to do over the holidays

Good progress pete.

Cant tell where half of that is haha, looking forward to seeing the final finished car!

Reply to my sale thread by the way.

how can you not tell where the bits are lol your not properly following the build then :0 nah only messing

Its a right mess in the car atm because I'm just getting on with bits and not tidying up much after so il take some better pics through the windscreen hole of all the back end inside of the car next weekend

Lol sorry mate

I cracked my screen too, went mental!

Regarding the tube bending, did you pack it with sand! haven't even tried mine yet...

  • Author

nope haven't tried packing it with sand yet just getting better at it now tbh but that is quite thick walled tubing so i might pack the thinner wall tube with sand to stop that deforming a bit

the annoying bit about the screen is I've gotta pay £80 to replace but i will wait til the cars roadworthy as it saves me having to store it and at least i dont have to find somewhere to store the once i just smashed either now

  • Author

right finished removing all of the soundproofing off the bulkhead tonight fook me there was alot and it weighs alot too tbh so should have saved a fair bit of weight getting rid of all that also started marking bits out for where i need to get the grinder on it :) next week holidays should be good as I'm also aiming to get all the back end or most of it stitch welded and get alot more of the front frame done its coming along finally

also bought some more eccentric alloy spherical bearing top mounts off ebay today that i will modify and use for the new front turrets

and nearly finished refurbing my transfer box just waiting on one more bearing to turn up so i can press it in and then i can reassemble same as the gearbox this weekend :)

no pics but tough luck :p

enjoy more work being done tomorrow and saturday

Why have you cut that huge hole into the engine bay?

  • Author

I'm getting rid of the battery tray area and it gives me more access for what I'm doing atm you will see later on once the front space framing is finished it will all make sense then

because racecar?

lol. i was also gonna ask

  • Author

obviously the SMOOTH look is what I'm going for ;)

This thing actually amazes me, Hats off to you Pete

I remember all but a while ago when you were at Santa Pod and you asked mine and a few others advice on what to do next as you had built not such a safe place for the tank in the rear, Now this is miles apart, superb work, keep it up, I look forward to seeing the front frame take shape.

  • Author

Glad it does Dan i dont want a normal build or one thats the same as alot of other peoples i want it one of a kind and i have most of the skills to do the work so why not show off everything i can do

and at the Pod last year i wasnt planning on taking it this far not even close really i was just going to roll cage it and maybe eventually turbo it and i would be done

The 4WD came as a spur of the moment thing more so when people told me the box wouldnt fit to the afh block so i had to show it could be done and managed to get a box and rear diff at a very good price

then the rest of the ideas started to form and come together

Edited by StinkyPete

It really is inspiring mate, keep it up.

omg this thread is AUSOME keep up the hard work with what will be a very noce car when finshed

There is a lot of fibreglass behind the rear right hand door card (looking from front) I take it that was for your rear arches?
