well gave VOSA a call today as still waiting for an email reply and it turns out il need an IVA as the SVA is basically now defunkt

so its going to be at least £500 just to get this road legal and thats if they dont want to put it through any tests.

it maybe easier for me to put this through in the amateur built class basically meaning kitcar class

so i have started redoing the rear tonight to spaceframe that so that the spaceframe is its own integral chassis and the cars old chassis isnt used for anything strength wise.

so it will literally be a shell on a spaceframe by the end but will make it easier to get it road legal and its also killing another bird with the same stone as now I'm spaceframing the rear I'm raising all the differential and supports another 50-75mm giving me loads more clearance

also meaning i could literally drive the car with the sills practically on the floor if i wanted it will be able to go that low

i sort of wish i would have gone about this a different way but then at the same time i dont as i could have done it without altering so much as to need an IVA but then it may not be as safe still legal but not as safe.

its the fault of all these new european legislations causing the trouble its hit the kitcar world really hard in terms of cost and problems

even though alot of these home built cars are safer than some production cars from back in the day right up til today its rediculous

but oh well i will perservere and get this car road legal just to prove a point that it can be done but its going to be a hell of a task

if i do end up having to put it through as a new build kitcar it means it will need a thatcham approved immob fitting, full abs and lots of other new things but on the plus side i may get a new 63 plate reg newest breadvan in the world lol

all fun and games will have to see how i get on because there is no way I'm just going to let this car be a trailor queen.

and as of todays IVA requirements from what I've been reading into there are alot of cars on this very forum that need an IVA

so a warning to those who this may include VOSA are starting to go around car shows etc and check out cars and note down registrations and this could mean you having your car taken off the road and a very expensive bill to get it back on the road

all just to keep us in line with the european union (what a load of bollocks)

Id imagine most non direct fit engine swaps, chassis notches, custom made suspension parts

its a pdf so just open it

there is an 8 points system and you need 8 points or more to avoid losing your reg and needing an IVA or SVA but if you alter the chassis in anyway even if you still have more than 8 points then you WILL need an IVA or SVA test.

so this includes: chassis notches, taking out the firewall/bulkhead bit as its structural, lightening it in certain places where its a structural point, removing rear wheel well as its also seen as structural.

its safety gone made due to the EU to be honest

I know some enforcement is needed but this has gone to far especially as the price of an IVA is £471.62 +VAT and £90 per retest its incredibly stupid just another way for the government to rake in money

All the best for the challenge of putting it road legal again but before you throw more money and time at it - something my work mates throw at me everyday...... it is and always will be a polo (maybe not yours) but you get the point,

dont go chasing a target because someone said you wont/cant do it.

Imaging loading this into solid works or what ever and testing the bars for areas of strain. 90 percent of the chassis would light up red. All i can see is DANGER TO MANIFOLD on a passengers seat computer,

Would still need an iva with a golf floor pan ad that itself would need extensively modifying

And the majority of the bracing is now justified due to all the new iva legislation I've got to get this through

A golf is just a golf yet it seems completely reasonable to spend thousands and thousands on them

The metal and tube for this has only cost me around a £100 so far

The time I'm spending on it well I've got loads ATM my girlfriends at uni and I can no longer bmx which use to take up 70% of my time but due to serious injury last year I can't really ride anymore

The effort well I really enjoy doing it its a hobby and I love making things

I would love it back on the road and I will try my harder to make it happen because that's what I want

You would have to be incredibly naive to think people dont talk about the car behind your back. you have a build thread! haters will be haters - if you dont want to hear about it then dont show people what you have done as 90% of the people that look at it wont have done it or cant do it so they will hate. thats life. I've never hidden the fact that i wasnt convinced it would happen- but i have the balls to say it and have always been on the end of a pm if help or advice was asked of me.

What toby refers to is the conversation we had 2weeks ago where i said i was worried for the project as so much had been cut out and so little had been finished, i would have thought the rear end would have been done- then the floor, then the front and all i saw was bits of all of it done and no real direction.

Yes i know people spunk loads on golfs - but if you tell someone you drive a golf you tend to look better then saying i drive a polo. I've spend so many hours on mine and quite a few quid - was it worth it? NO!

Modding any car isn't really worth it will all do this because we enjoy it or we all did till everyone started becoming haters and before the hole scene points world came about, to many jelous people in this now and not enough people willing to show support and help even if it isn't how they would go about things at the end of the day you do your car how you want to, and let/help others do theirs how they want to. Constructive criticism fair enough but being a hater just for haters sake what's the point? There's alot of good guy's on here and even though I keep my self to to my self on here some great guys have helped me out with parts and advice (people like Harris, maxgt, Karl, prankstar and pete)

P.s keep it up pete alot of work going into this and it iwill pay off :)

There's more than one way to attack everything like this, think I sound as though I'm being really negative when I'm not. Think it's great what you're trying to achieve, just personally I'd have done things in different ways, but as I'm sure you're aware you run into problems on the way and have to change plans/ideas

I say fairplay for getting this far.

I would personaly love to be able to do this , Once the finished project is done it would just be that feeling of accomplishment and knowing that its bespoke , one of a kind.

I wish i had the balls to even attempt somthing like this, One thing i would say is more power would have been awsome however more fart assing around. Plus with your estimated weight it still should have a kick >pwer to weight<

Thing is. The internet can make alot of comments sound snyde and sarcastic etc as there's no body language or voice .. I've took comments the wrong way before then later on re-read them and the way they were worded was fine, Just i read it wrong ..

Progress pictures are just litrally pictures you've took when working ..So there raw and not hiding anything, Its going to get tidied up in the end so no harm really, Just makes it look worst and like the cars getting butchered when in fact its not as you have the final product in your head ..

And for the power thing my syncro box can only take 200-220 bhp max so power has to be limited or I need to buy a rallye box (more expense, time ad modification) but that would only maybe see me upto 300bhp otherwise I'm then getting into Haldex territory

Otherwise I would drop a 1.8 20vt in I'm limited by the gearbox

But it will be nice to say I have a 1.4 16vt 4wd when its finished even if it is only 220bhp say
