Twin charged would be awesome, but as you have, I looked into it. I was put off by the compexity of a clutch to disengage the super-charger. The new twin charged VW engines use an electromagnetic clutch, but I'd have thought a mechanical one would have been easier to rig up. Kind of like the clutches they had in yo-yos about 15 years ago (i suppose a lot of you are too young to remember those!). Then there's the packaging issue. There's a lot of space over the g.box but it's getting the drive to it. Although there were a few interesting ideas floating about in Guy's thread regarding this

Or use an electromagnetic clutch just like an AC compressor with a pressure relief switch to engage/disengage it

Quick Update sorting out the new jacking points and inner sills atm then moving onto to the new rear spaceframe I'm doing thought i may aswell go the whole hog with it

started ripping out the rear

new front coilovers and they have a new design I'm guessing for ease of manufacturing but also gives more adjustability

new front discs 262mm ready for the new 4 pot front brakes i just need to rebuild the calipers

decided to lighten the angle plate I've got that goes from A to B pillar before i put the new box section in for extra strenghtening between the new jacking points that are going to be put in

Bought 2 20mm Bi metal holesaws for £2 each from tool station used one for each sill worked a treat 25 holes on each side in the 3mm thick plate and the second one is still useable but the first lost a few teeth after 13 holes but still managed to do the other 12 with it :)

Today i started removing the rest of the floor doing it properly and drilling the spot welds holding the floor pan to the sills and il put the new floor in the same way

now if i can fix my gas regulator tomorrow i will be welding the new jacking points on tomorrow and can get the inner sill box sections started

also just order some heavy duty castor wheels that will take upto 1000kgs so il be making a mini car dolley to sit the car on for wheeling in and out of the garage easily and the car will sit on it on the new jacking points

Friday evening i Picked up my new Alpine Milling machine got an absolute bargain with it and its alot bigger than i was expecting when i was first told about it just need to make a bench this week so sit it on but thats no biggy for me.

has massive travel on the cross slides too and nearly 2 foot of up and down movement so i am now able to mill things at home and basically have my own little machine shop so if you need any custom parts now hit me up il be fully operational in a week or two and most things are possible now :)

will get pics up of it when its all set up

Brilliant engineering skills, is there anything you can't do

I like to be self sufficient so if I come to do something that I can't do I learn how

Gives me alot more versatility with a wider range of skills

so i managed to fix the gas regulator on the welder today so could carry on welding and get some more progress done

started welding the jacking points together

then welded them to the car 2 on the A pillar roll cage mounts and 2 on the B pillar roll cage mounts

then i started trimming the new inner sill box section to size to fit all flush and tacked it into place

then seam welded the box section in

more to come over the next week

himm dont think it will have any chassis flex

Top job Pete, I'd be interested in what weight this will be after with all the extra metal

I'm aiming for max of 100kgs over standard and il be removing alot of weight soon too

and while I'm on here may as well do a quick update

top caps welded onto jacking points

then triangulation braces tacked into place on B pillar points

then seem welded in fully

just need to finish the bracing on the A pillar points

then i can make the chassis dolley so i can wheel the chassis in and out the garage

i bought the castor wheels last week they can take upto a ton so could hold the car fully built too

also made myself a work bench to stand the milling machine on

will have the milling machine up and running this week as soon as i get enough man power to lift the main turret and motor assembly onto the base table its bloody heavy, it took me and my dad to lift the base table onto the workbench

How do you plan to mount seats?

Also what is the hole under the main beam on the B-Pillar? anchor point?

that hole is where the cross tunnel brace used to bolt to but i welded a a brace straight across from b pillar to b pillar just haven't gone round and cut the bottom bits off yet and tidied it up done the top side ones

and yeah was good to see everyone hopefully next time il be in this so you can have a good butchers

and Toby should be strong enough i hope and made it so the compressor sits underneath properly and the shelf goes across the other 2/3's as can be seen

and then I've got my extra air tank to one side and is all linked up so i have a 3 hp compressor with 48 litre capacity now and the extra tank is portable so i can fill it up and take it some where with me if needed

and the seat mounting you will see when i get there not too far away now got most of the tubing to finish the whole centre section now so will move back onto the front and rear of it soon next weekend more likely

Cracking on as always man fair play. Watch the pikeys don't chuck it in the back of their transit pickup when you wheel it out the garage.

Not that it's scrap, just amount of lotsa metal - before anyone moans or gets offended haha

By the way, have you any more info from when you space the carbs to fit your manfiold, wondering wether its worth doing it with mine.

Il be honest Max the amount of trouble I had spacing the carbs I just wouldn't bother mate its such a ball ache and you have to make loads of small linking bits as you can't extend the standard plastic bits

I just wish I would have spent extra making a manifold that did it instead of bothering spacing the carbs

That's why I'm going to cnc my new itbs manifold from billet ally

Aye, problem is with maching them on a 3 axis, is that the ports can't be contoured properly, unlike bending tube.

I need to find some soft flexible tube for mine that wont collapse like samco hose.

I have away around that for the CNC'ing max I'm doing each port spacing from each side if you get me then il just clean it up and flow it properly by porting it

will see at the start of march how it gets on

anyways quick update

milling machine now set up and operational

then started to finish off the A pillar jacking Points

started cutting more of the flooring i no longer need out

then added the last brace for the A Pillar to link it into the a Pillar cross brace

so thats the jacking points finally done and braced into the frame

so i will be making the chassis dolley this weekend once i pick up the metal tomorrow i will then be able to put the shell on it and move it around to make getting round it to do work easier

then I'm finishing off the rear frame and the rest of the front and will then need to make the roll over jig to get it on its side

Hey pete!

So thursday night i made a bracket to hold my heater matrix inside the car as i have smoothed the bay. and this also has a bracket that holds my secondary fusebox for accesories, alarm, electric windows, central locking etc.

then fitted the bracket and heater matrix in the car fits really good and sits perfectly behind the dash and the centre console will take pics when i get my phone back.

Yep have the whole bracket sitting in my garage probs going in the scrap unless someone wants it lol can take pics tonight if I remember an would maybe trade it with my modified heater fan assembly for a non modded one
