Where did you get the sills from? are you happy with them? Thick enough?

just off ebay mate cost £64 delivered and got them within 3 days

they seem alright not as amazing as genuine panels but good enough not tried them against the car yet i will this weekend and theres one or two bits that will need modding slightly

mainly theres a bit near the front where the sheet is pressed into shape around a corner bit and the corner has a hole in where the sheets wrapped around

but I'm guessing a genuine panel is slightly thicker the sheet stretches to make the corner rather than folding round and doesnt leave a hole

hope you get what i mean not bad for what i paid and the short wait though and il probably end up cutting them up and modifying them abit anyways as I'm sure you know what I'm like and the way this build is going

so i cut out the mk2 golf rear arches today then wheeled the car out of the garage for the first time in a year once the rain had stopped and the sun came out then had a good clearout and sweep in the garage nice little tidy up and also got the drivers door off so i can acces everywhere i want

tomorrow i hope to get the main bits of the front frame started/majority done then i can start sorting the main engine mount on drivers side and also the rest of the bracing to put all the strength in

was just about to say that. looks a hell of alot better in those pics. whats going on with the arches then?

waiting for a company to get back to me that does stock car arches once they do i can go buy and pick them up next weekend/ week after and start getting those done if not may just make my own will have to wait and see

and yeah it does look better in the light should hopefully look alot better once the front is done more and i have the new standard arches from Guy to fit for mocking everything up before i mod them for wider arches

It will look like a polo that's good enough for me and at least il feel safe in it from other road users unlike in a standard polo

Looks good now its all free of clutter and can see the amount of time you've put in

got more done today

the weather was shit snowing and raining and i needed the front of the garage open so i made myself a ghetto shack for the front of it

inside nice light, warmish and spacious-ish lol

so i started getting the front bottom tunnel braces shaped i had already bent them earlier in the week just needed to tweak with the grinder for best fitment then weld into place

i then bent and welded in the front bottom chassis rails (check out my BOAT)

i then bent my engine mount plate for the chassis rail

did this by grinding a groove across it so that i could bend the plate along the line

bent the plate then ground out the groove again so i could run a root weld in the gap then seam welded over the top for strength

this make is stronger than welding two plates together edge to edge

i then welded the plate in place so i can start mocking up the engine into place once the rest of the front braces are done

then quickly mocked up my fibreglass bucket seat to see where i need to run the seat mounting bars across from the tunnel to the sill and how high they need to be

more to come this week and next weekend need to get some more tube for the rest of the front end bracing

Nice to see it all together too. Whats happening with the body work?

bodywork wise the floor pan will be sheet steel not sure on thickness yeat probably 0.8mm in more critical areas and 0.6 in non critical

it will all be spotwelded in place properly then seem welded where needed

rear arches I'm just waiting on hearing back from a company they will match the front so thats all 4 arches

and the rest il tie it all in when the frame is all finished and i come round to it but its not far off tbh

front suspension and top mounts trial fitting

then cut up my older spare slam panel to start mocking it up into place

then fitted my grill to have a look and see what its like

also quickly trial fitted the new front panel and it looks good i can roughly see where to put the mountings for it but il wait til i get the new front wings this weekend so i can bolt all the new front end on properly and work it all out

tbh being brutally honest with myself i cant see it being on the road by this summer as i want to do it all properly no bodging and everything done as well as i can

may not even be on the road this year due to money restraints too but il do my best

theres just so much left to do of the big bits then theres all the little bits that will tie it all together and everyone knows all the little bits soon add up

It's all bolted mate how I had it originally but may just use this slam panel for mocking up then cut my new one properly and decently then spot weld and weld it all in properly as I want all the middle front to be bolt in

The key thing is making sure you know in yourself that theres no rush. Take it one step at a time etc and enjoy doing it.

The reason I've done a short term restoration on the breadvan is so i can have something fun on the road, and thatll prevent me trying to rush the coupe.

Sorry pete, that was a poorly worded question! What I meant was, how are they fitted from factory? Where are the spot welds?

I can't remember where the spot welds are exactly maybe check my build earlier on I'm sure there is pictures from when I removed the original
