yeah I'm using 1.2mm sheet steel for main floorpan where you sit then I have 0.7mm thick sheet to weld in all the rest of the safelt places like bulkhead etc but still weight saving

then for where I want removable bolt on panels for access I have some 1mm thick ally sheet to save weight

will be starting all of that pretty soon just need to finish off the rest of the chassis structure

I am having some more made up that are longer so will fit around the wheel and with the bodywork more

these ones are too short as the guy thought I was running 13's and not 15's my mistake for not letting him know

also cut off the last bits of the front chassis rails that are no longer needed gives more access aswell for finishing bits off

that's it for now but I'm getting everything sorted to get the car on its side so I can finally start getting the new floor pan in

right ROOF options are:

A: buy some polycarb and bolt it in as a light weight sunroof

B: have the roof fibreglassed over (using roof as mould) then trim all excess metal from middle and tigerseal the fibreglass roof ontop basically roof skin it.

C: cut out as much metal from middle and replace with ally sheet for mass weight loss (1mm ally Sheet)

roof thickness is 1.0-1.2mm mild steel sheet

B would look normal but be light weight but not too bothered about it looking original as none of the rest of the car does

C is what I prefer and if done right would look amazing IMO plus would save 50-55% of the weight of the actual roof that would be removed

any other ideas or opinions are welcome and please don't just give negative comments give reasons as to why you think something is a bad idea if it is

why are you going to all the effort of saving weight, then welding on some hench metal arches??? why not get some fibreglass ones made dude?! berg cup style?

also id deffo go for a perspex sunroof for easyness.

I want something permanent so going with the steel ones and welding them on

They aren't hench metal arches as they are only 0.8mm thick sheet and they won't be left solid

Just wait and see

Regarding the roof I'm not bothered about easiness otherwise I wouldn't be doing this build at all

I would rather the weight saving

A was just an option to put out there but it's the least likely to happen

fair enough dude! interested to see where you go with the arches. hopefully you can pull it off!

I was going to raise the exact same point as Ric about the arches should be fibreglass to make a diff in weight. You seem to know what your doing so go with the best option for yourself. Don't do what is easier or cheaper at the time if you will regret it in the long term. Do as you always have, do what you want and what suits you buddy, if it means more graft then tough shit crack on

I'm going to be running Omex 600 now and will hopefully be buying it next month

Just to add some more info about arches for people concerned about weight

It will only be the rear arches adding any weight to the car as I plan on getting fibreglass copies made of the front wings and arches as a whole one piece part

so that will save a lot more weight on the front where needed
