I'd get your timing checked also, properly. Get you carbs running rich and its better than lean and then check you timing. Get it running vaguely and get someone local that knows what they are doing with carbs to have a shundie.

Are all your breathers and stuff free and venting to atmosphere?

Are you getting a good fuel supply.

Set your base timing to about 10 deg, mix screws to 2.5 turns out from stops, you say you've drilled jets to 1.5 so they're about 1.6 then.

i believe you have an issue with something i can see in this photo.

even if it not the cause of this problem you are having- there is something wrong which will have to be corrected.

When i was 17 and before i was in the job I'm in now i had a ford escort 1.3- BANGING :-) and it dis not have a rev counter. its first mot under my ownership was a tough one. it couldnt pass the emissions, and something i noticed but never understood at the time was how they knew how fast the engine was turning. it has to be within a certain rev range to perform the test.

Having worked with aircraft braking systems for the last 6 years and working to develop the lastest electric actuators to stop the bombardier C-Series aircraft, i now fully understand! How they did it was to place an induction loop round a HT lead.

When a high voltage passes along a wire it can create electrical noise- the worst example of this is when an electric spark is created. To HT leads the ignition system is biggest victim of interference and in the 70s they chaned the design of HT leads to include resistors to try and suppress the noise.

ever wondered why on some old car stereos you can find a channel which has a noise which goes "wuuuuurrrr" and getts louder when you rev higher? or if you place you stereo RCA leads next to the power wire from the battery its sounds rubbish? or when you indicate you hear a pop on the radio?

At work i have assembled the development actuators for several aircraft and we found during testing that if certain wires were not kept from others the noise from just the power wire was enough to send the hall sensors wires a signal. so it would lose its position.

So knowing this- what signal does it give the HT lead? answer = the perfect signal. weve all used a timing light! which brings me to the point

Why is that king lead got your hall sensor wires wrapped round it?

that wire will send a better signal from the HT lead noise than the actual effect.

Thanks for that. I did actually wonder whether that would have an effect, but I don't know enough about it an just went with it. So are you saying that it may run better if I ran the HS wires away from the King lead?

so with that in mind Simon - you wouldnt put the hall wire next to it as it will effectively be firing twice if best - its more likely to be firing all over the place randomly.

do you have access to an oscilloscope? be interesting to see a before and after of the signal being generated

Saying the HT lead shouldn't be with the hall sender wires in such close proximity. It was the knowledgeable Nick that told me to "shup up" as I believe he thought it was tosh. I've never known a black dizzy cap to work on the Bosch TCI-H system. They're usually Manelli caps, and/or EFi. Only seen red aftermarket caps. Might be worth checking you have correct dizzy cap and rotor arm too.

I thinkk given the dizzy is painted it might actually be paint on it?
