Good weather (still) over the last few weeks means I've gotten the boards on the roof now. This will in time be covered in corrugated steel but for now it's reasonably water proof until I can get hol

What so good about the bath tho max ?

It's basically chemicals and vibration cleaning, ideal for cleaning all the tiny tubes/ports inside the carbs you can't get to. Removes built up shit reducing the diameter of such holes.

Always used to sonically clean the carbs off our karts

It basically aggitates the gas in the water, which after a few seconds start to form on the specimen thats being cleaned, then the little gas pockets (microscopic) start to implode on themsleves, releasing a lot of energy,

Which in turn blasts off any contaminats/dirt etc, you also add a detergent to help carry the crap/grease away...

You can also add fairy ... Max your rather clever int you :)

Not at all  they're very good though, look at my thread.

1.6 on bike carbs; anti-social!

Working?

She's running quite smoothly, need to check the balance but my bro had to take his back. Still need a test drive but obviously that's hard without an mot

How about gears mate? Any luck?

Think I have all 5. Again, the box is so sloppy? It's hard to tell if I have 5th without getting up to speed

Finally got some time to work on the car today. Started by whipping the carbs off, practically soaking them with carb cleaner and blowing air through all jets and breathesrs. Also cleared the float bowls of some crusty shit that could potentially lead to blockages. The float needles were covered in some rubbish, so cleaned these up too. Everything now feels and should be clean. She ran sweetly and took a nice while to reach operating temperature (compared to a few weeks ago where sh'd get really hot). A quick drive to the end of the road and back threw up no problems and she felt nice and perky. She's not idling as smoothly as I'd like, but I think I need to re-balance the carbs.

Fixed the blowing exhaust too, for now, so really need to book an MOT. Still concerned she may break down on the way there, but I guess the only way to find out is to try it :?

Diaphrams ok?

Yep, no tears.

Does it idle and rev up without problems then dude?

Is it timed up? Or just guessing?

  • Author

Starts straight off the key and idles quite nicely, litte uneven, but this may be due to the carbs being unbalanced. It revs up very fast but again, takes a bit of time to drop to 1K, another sign of unbalanced carbs apparently.

Timing was set to +10 but it ran better at full advance with the throttle stop wound back

Makes one hell of a noise with the trumpets and bottom half of the air box on though

GTI festival?

Maybe its a bit lean if u need full advance for it to pull properly

Also to make sure i deffo have no air leaks on my joining rubbers I've used 2 jubilee clips on each where they connect to the manifold

No way am i commiting. Whats the date? My dads just built a double garage, so before he fills it with his stuff, I'm hoping to respray the whole car in there if he'll let me! Will take at least a week, so planning to do it in half term.

Awesome si! Would be cool!

See if you can get it mot worthy!

Is there noone around your way with carbs who could get it running for u?

There's an old boy across the street who helps out a bit, but he's put off by the 4 carbs! My brother would help, but he works away all week and is building his own stratos when he's back at weekends. So hard to pull him away from that! Think I'm going to chance it and book the MOT for friday and just have a go getting it over to mine. Needs tracking sorting bad, its twitchy as hell! Especially with the loud pedal pressed down!

Really wanting to respray this now before I take it anywhere. Its taken so many knocks its needing TLC. Going to be an engine out job, with removable front panel if all goes to plan

Just give it all a good polish for now, sure itl look fine
