Good weather (still) over the last few weeks means I've gotten the boards on the roof now. This will in time be covered in corrugated steel but for now it's reasonably water proof until I can get hol

Another deadline missed

My genuine front panel arrived the other day, and it fits like a dream. I think a bit of modding would have been required to fit the pattern part as well as this one does.

Set about prepping it for some paint. My new 2K to 1K hardner came the other day too. This way you get the hardiness and shine of 2K without the health risks. First thing was to recreate the factory stonechip look. So got msyself some anti-stonechip paint and a shlutz gun

Masked it up

Gave it a couple of coats

Looks pretty factory tbh. Going to do the sills and rear valance the same way to keep them protected too.

looking good Si, fuck deadlines really, get it right first time hey!

That's the plan!

I can't do either.. wouldn't worry about it Si, it's your motor and you wanna enjoy building it and get it right to yourself so you can tru;y enjoy it when you've done it. Don't feel pushed by others, from people close or names on the net, ever.

Where did you get that front panel mate been looking all over for one. Build is awesome

Might be worth asking them about stock first as i got mine from there no issues (About 8mths ago) but I'm under the impression prankstar had problems.

Cheers mate your a star! I'm shore I checked on there site aswell.

This genuine one was from eBay, but heritage can get pattern parts. Though when you'll actually get it is a different matter. If I were you, I 'd ring them rather than ordering on the net. Also, although more expensive, I'd get a genuine panel rather than pattern. It fitted no problem

Wa the Schultz gun you used run off your compressor Simon

  • Author

It was indeed. The gun was about £7 from ebay. If you go this route it helps to have a play on a practice panel. It says to use 50psi, but because it was cold outside it came out much thicker. I think i did it at about 60psi with the tip of the gun done up a few threads only. It's come out really good so it plays to have a play about

Does it need welding in

final push for gti ? ;)

Does it need welding in

In theory yes, but I'm going to bolt mine on

Jamie, i'm hoping it will be done, but shit's hit the fan and I'm in the middle of moving premises, again! I'll probably be going to early edition anyhow as GTi doesn't hold too much for me and I missed UD and want to see some of the big show cars.

Love the mock up booth, what form of extraction you got?

Painting it yourself?

Kudos!

Windows! Less than perfect but the best I can do. Going to be heated mind. Might get a few desk fans in there to

Seen a similar setup used and the results were pretty good. Remember to wet the floor if it's a dusty space.

yeah windows are kl! just aim the fans out of them!

these are the paint jobs i love to see, ill keeping a eye on this!

I've done a few jobs in a booth without extaction when the electric

went, the overspray just takes its time

go, nothing a good flat & polish cant sort tho!

if you were abit closer id let u roll it my oven 1 weekend.

Well I've done a few panels with reasonable results, so I'm hoping for something along the same lines. The paint is awful ATM, so it can't look any worse! Going to be a panel off job too to get into all the fiddly bits

Looks awsome! i just get gassed when painting! not good....
