Looking good Si, nice to see you still on it!

I'm all over it! hah! I just can't wait to get the garage done so I can get the car moved to mine and I can tinker. I have collected so many parts over the last year that I'm desperate to get fitted but just nowhere to do it atm

Took the day off today to do some more work on the garage. The weather was a little wet at the weekend but it's been prefect today. Not much left to do now, despite it still looking like a bit of a shell. All four walls are up and I managed to get a couple of rafters done. I'm not a roofer (obviously) but I have friends in the trade who have been giving me a crash course in roofing so although this took me around an hour to get up, now I have templates I can make rapid progress.

And one of the building site that is currently my garden!

Good (if cold) weather this weekend meant an opportunity to get on with the roof. Just ran out of light as I was getting the boards ready for the roof. Still, plenty done.

Good weather (still) over the last few weeks means I've gotten the boards on the roof now. This will in time be covered in corrugated steel but for now it's reasonably water proof until I can get hold of the steel. The bulk of the work is now done and it's just cladding and bracing left really. I'll then pull the floor up and leave it to dry whilst I do the cladding out as there is a bit of water collecting under the floor sheets. Think I'm going to put some windows in on the far wall as this is where the sun comes round in the evening, especially spring and autumn so it would nice to have some natural light at these times.

On a car related note, I popped round to my sister's earlier where the car is stored and she's in a sorry state. Paint is flaking off and covered in lichen. Can't wait to get her in the dry so I can make a start on the (second) restoration. Must say I've learned so much doing it (badly) the first time round and trying to do too much myself and cutting corners. Although it could be said it's money down the drain I see it as a learning curve and the next time will be done properly. Just to get this garage finished and fitted out

I reckon another 5 days and it could be done, at least to make it weather proof. Then as I said I'll let it dry out. Would love to get the car in by the end of January (and no doubt so would my sister!)

Metal for the roof ordered today. Hopefully get some good weather this week and get the cladding done. Also already planning an extension to allow me to put a car out the front of the garage as well as inside

There's a little one at the back. Was going to put a few more in but since it backs onto a quiet road and I've had my sheds broken into before I decided to just have another small one to deter potential thieves.

Thanks for the kind words. However it's only on the finishing touches you realise a few measurements might have been out. Going to have quite a few 'trim strips' to tidy things up!

Indeed. There's quite a bit of water 'under the floor' so I need to dry that out first before the car comes in. Also I'll need to get the car running first!

Day off work today so got the other side buttoned up obviously the fence needs to come down.

Now to get the hardware for the doors so I can make it secure and pull that fence down. I'll post an update about the car soon!

Last few days I've been putting the doors up. Apart from a few small things it's done

This arrived today. Really can't wait to get working on the car again. So many ideas over the last couple of years

After a bit of a break over the Xmas period and new year I've been cracking on this and last weekend finishing off the roof and starting the interior.

Roof done. Annoyingly it's the most expensive single part of the build but will hardly be seen! Still, it was by far the cheapest and easiest solution and I like the look too. Over a 6m length I was only an inch out, which I'll take as an amateur. All in all the roofing, including delivery and fixings came in at about £650, which included enough to do it half again (I'm thinking of an extension car port in the future). Pretty good really and I had it done in about 1.5 days

One of the main reasons for going for wood, apart from being able to build it myself,was that it doesn't tend to sweat as bad as pre-fab or brick garages. To help with this further I'm insulating it too as well as putting up some plastic membrane as well finished off with some 6mm ply.

Oh, and I have a few tasty bits coming for the car too. Having 2 1/2 years of not working on the car has given me plenty of time to run lots of ideas through my mind. Think I've decided on the direction finally

All walls fully insulated and braced now. Just waiting for the roof to dry out fully before I insulate that too. Amazing how much moisture wood will hold
