nice cruising shot there :)

very nice clean GT, good work.:thumbsup:

black and red colour scheme just looks right.

have to admit i prefer the teardrops tho sorry.

Yeah i had alot of comments with it on the teardrops, and they do suit it, but 1's egg shaped and leaking air :( plus 13" tyres are so much cheaper

VW in germany are doing a re run on the Teardrops as of last month in various colour combos think its about £50 a wheeel including centres.can give you the contact if you like.

Finally got round to fitting the coilovers the other week, rides a lot firmer, which is what I was after for a lowered car with wide wheels.

But after having the bacon closely looking at my car a few times and MOT coming up soonish i thought it was about time to sort out the front wheels. Cant really justify having 8js on the front so I set about finding two 7js. A few about but all in the wrong shape. If anyone knows allycats they will know theres two different shapes, the 70's style with the raised lip, and the contemporary alleycat wheel (mini fitment), which has a flat lip. Anyways i was after the 70's style wheel which proved a bit harder thean i originally thought until Oli up in Gloucester had 2 forsale. Unfortunately there in ford fitment 4x108. So a stop over at SWWR to see John who forwarded me on to Ben who can hopefully redrill these in the correct VW fitment.

My handbrake started getting really bad, literally had to put it in gear to stop it from rolling down the hill outside my house. It was never great to be honest, and i should of done it a long time ago. A trip down to see matt at volkscraft to gather some information, and he just recommended taking them apart and giving them a clean.

So thats what i set about to do, and oh my was there a lot of brake dust caught up in the drums.

1004446.jpg

So cleaned them out and put it all back together, and now my handbrake works again happy days

Thats just from one brake drum...

And also if you pick up May's issue of Golf+ you'll find the lil polo hiding in the bottom corner of the SWDubs meet section of the book :D

Cheers chap, all positive comments just drive me to want to work on my car more often!

Loving this!

Cheers bud, really enjoyed reading your thread and to be honest very similar cars bar the colour :D

Yeah, literally just took them apart and cleaned it all out. Still had loads of life left in the shoes so left them there, surprised how much difference it made. I did find that the adjustment was slightly off, so just gave it a quick tweek. Worth doing if you're finding your handbrakes not as good as it used to be?

Right been a while, but finally got my arse into gear... well dans :p

Had endless problems with fitting my s/s 4branch manifold. The facing on the manifold wasnt flat, so had to get that milled down, then I fubar-ed one of the screw threads into the head, so had to get that sorted, then fouling on some chassis bracing and ARB. But in the end it fitted on well.

As any lazy bastard would... I took it down to Dans shack and he did it all for me :p

img0081x.jpg

Old manifold...

img0083ht.jpg

So whilst dan cracked on, I went and got some breakfast.. :D came back and noticed i had some rather HUGE arch gap going on

img0082ed.jpg

But all was good, as he had already got all the bolts holding on the manifold off from the head and was attacking the join underneath. Whilst the car was like this, i also noticed some rather extreme low's on the back....if only I could run it like this as a daily..

img0084mn.jpg

img0085pb.jpg

So old manifold off...

img0087h.jpg

img0086s.jpg

And new manifold on... :D

img0088fk.jpg

img0090ct.jpg

Nope, doesnt quite fit, more fouling on the engine block.. so a trip over to dans bud who bent it out a little and we're away again.

img0089ei.jpg

So second try... yerp thats a bit better

img0091qr.jpg

Yeah... i think you're right dan.. that is an engine :p

img0092co.jpg

And we're done!

Some little issues with front ARB, fouls on the manifold, but spaced them down a bit and its ok for now..The bushes where perished as-well, so I just ended up ordering some of these G-laderseite ARB bushes (YUM) before my MOT thats due sooon.

Happy Days, really happy with it, and big thanks to Dan at Devon Dub Shack :) Legend. Drives a lot nipper now than before :D

Really nice to see such a clean gt - not seen one in a while

Might have to get myself another :ninja:

just a small update.

I'm back home now for Christmas, so hopefully the s/s manifold will be going on in the next few days, i also have some 239 discs with VW11 callipers to go on and want to refurb the rear drums as they're not 100%.

I bought a set of Mk1 Golf rear coilovers for a decent price and gave them a quick clean. Don't have before photos, but we all know how dirty coilovers/suspension gets and sorry the pictures are all taken on my phone, so much easier to upload.

Tried and tested... yerp. Only the rears though, and lowers the car a lot, even when adjusted at top setting, its also makes it very firm, but that was what i was after.

Looks so good in the flesh. even if it was dirty when i saw it :p

Bay looks much better now!

that manifolds tidied the bay up a treat, cars looking good mate! 7's on the front is a good shout

beautiful car mate, I hope mine looks this clean one day

Cheers corey, yeah i'm hoping the 7's will do wonders, not just for my handling, but for the sake of my arches :p Hows your polo coming along?

Cheers chap, comments like this make it all worthwhile at the end of the day 8-)

Ill be heading back down to Plymouth in september Chriz. Will you have a driveway or good parking next year? might have to chuck you some cash to park at your house when I'm down. If this is possible? Parking is ridiculous down there ha.

  • Author

unfortunately, parking next year will be a ball ache for me aswell, moving into a house that has no parking out side, and all close parking is all permit parking :( parking is a bit shit, and if i had a drive i'd let you park there for free... but i dont :(

Cheers corey, yeah i'm hoping the 7's will do wonders, not just for my handling, but for the sake of my arches :p Hows your polo coming along?

i think they'll look 10x better than the 8's, polo got stagger. haha!

i been doin a few bits and bobs to mine recently hes lookin a bit smarter now! we'll have to get a polo shoot on the go at some point, my mates mk2 and the other plymouth lads.

oh and jay i live like a 10 minute walk from the uni halls so if needed you could park your car on my street when you're down, won't get a fine and its safer than greenbank

  • Author

Hey corey, yeah we should would be a cool meet. Yeah, i think the 7's on the front will set it off nicely aswell.

Cars got its MOT on Saturday feeling pretty positive about it, but we'll see :D

Also got my G-laderseite ARB bushes through the post with a free small bag of haribo?? lol... not complaining.
