Just a quick update to say I'm now running RA's all round again now :) happy days, also decided to buy another RA wheel and get another tyre and run it as a spare. After picking this wheel up, its actually made me think do i want to powder coat the others Black in the middle? looks quite smart.. hmm

Ok not much been going on with this car recently, its winter and been working on the black GT most days I get free.

I did cut the front springs by two coils though, so sits at a better height now none of that awful arch gap and RR. I did buy a set of 80mm springs and lowering top caps, not to sure i'll need them now, but i'll wait till i put the cats back on in the summer. The cats are going to go in for a refurbishment over the winter period as well, ready for the summer. I've also gone and bought a new interior, Its a very late Mk2 Golf GTi interior from what I've been told. I've personally never seen it before, but then again I've never gone into the Mk2 Golf world, only been a Mk1 Golf/Jetta and Mk2/Mk3 polo man. Don't have any pictures of the actual interior at the moment as its all shoved in my car ready to go back to my parents place to fit over the weekend but here's a few pictures I've found on google of the same pattern material.

Havn't decided what I'm going to do with the rear bench yet, might try and fab it in, or might just wrap the material round the polo foam and make it fit that way, but we'll see this weekend. I think they'll look awesome in the little polo, as the colours match really well. Looking forward to getting shot of the worn GT seats :)

Right, so i had the day off work today so i set about fitting the mk2 golf interior into the polo. As I'm sure everyone knows, the fronts just slide in so i wasnt to worried about the fronts apart from them being a little on the high side, but the drivers side is adjustable anyways.

So i took the polo interior out and lined the back bench up with the golf rear bench and they had a lot of similarities. So I thought swapping the bases over and see how the material and foam lines up on the new bases. So set about taking all the golf/polo bases off and matching up the polo bases with the mk2 golf foam and material. Wasnt perfect but sat fairly good and inline. So tucking all the material in and fitted a few zip ties in a few hidden places and it all went on fine. The only problem was the back bench is a little saggy as the material was slightly too big for the base, but it'll do for now. So once the rear bench was in, just slotted in the front seats they're a really good match with the original trim and colour. Think i might just invest in som corrado seat bases and swap them over to get them a bit lower, or just cut and shut the legs. Anyways, heres some picture:

Ok, so my cars been f-ing around for the past 2weeks now... Blown Exhaust gasket, Trottle position sensor fucked, leaking radiator... list is never ending really.

bought some bits and piece from ebay, RTV Copper for the exhaust gasket, Thread repair kit to fix the f-ed up thread holding on the exhaust, flexi join for the exhaust.... and also went to TPS for some bits, Rocker gasket, TPS, Blue Temp sensor, and the exhaust gasket (they only had the one, but another ones being ordered in for me tomorrow)

First on the job list was to just replace the TPS sensor, looked slightly different to the one i had, but same part number - they must of just redesigned it.

Next was the leaking Radiator, i had bought a previous radiator from someone on clubpolo thinking it was a GT rad but after i pulled mine off it was clear there was a size difference between the two and different fan plug connection. so thought to myself... great!! but after looking closely the fan housing was exactly the same, so just swapped them over onto the bigger non leaking rad and bobs your uncle :) Whilst it was off thought id clean it up a little aswell.

Also started taking the manifold off to replace the gasket ready for tomorrow. Took the old gasket out and it looked a lil something like this... :(

Can see where it blew at the top. Oh well, so got the thread repair kit out and drilled the old thread out, tapped a new thread in and put a repair coil in it, and now the bolt goes in and stays in.... solid as a rock :) From what i've heard mechanics in motorsport do this to all the threads on the engine anyways as its stronger.

Oh and my millage hit 144444 the other day.. ha, and the other reset-able millage was 1987... my birth year :) thought it was a lil random so took a picture.

Cheers chap, was pretty straight forward really :) my old GT seats had seen better days, so a new interior was needed. Infact i might just fix the GT seats up and sell them on.

Ahh thats interesting.. so what GT's had the bigger rad.... later GT's I'm guessing then? I just thought it was a G40 rad or something? I wasn't complaining when I compared the two as I'm sure a bigger rad would help with keeping the engine cool

Today was just about finishing off all the lil bits i didn't get to finish yesterday. So went TPS and got the other half of the gasket and fitted them with RTV copper, which seems to have worked a treat, no blowing as of yet. Here's the genuine VW gaskets, much better quality than the GSF ones by far!

New blue temp sensor in, plumped the system and checked all the joints over... and waited for the fan to kick in. All works as it should with no leaks, excellent.

I also won a solid (nylon) engine mount for the lil polo off ebay, so fitted that today aswell and geez does it make a difference. I've fitted Bug Pack mounts before in my jetta, but this mount seem's so much stiffer and makes gear shifting lovely :)

Right then, got my Allycats back that I got re-drilled for me. So now they are fully VW fitment, 4x100 and 57.1 CB Really happy with the outcome, but now they're being passed on to the wheel re-furbishers to bring them back to life!

It's actually early GTs that had them, but not all do! It's a bit random. I've had 4 GT squarebacks over the years, 2 had the diesel rad and 2 didn't. All were early mk3s.

They where welded up with alloy and lathed to size. In these pictures you can clearly see where they have been welded up, re-drilled and been lathed. But thanks for your input.

they do look a little strange without the print on the face but i think they will still look good when they've been painted and it gives them abit of a custom feel

Would of been nice to keep the original type on the front, but was either that or to get adaptors which totally defeated the object of getting 7j's in the first place. Granted do look a little od, but like you said when they get refurbished and all painted up it shouldn't look any different than any other allycat, bar the type.

Just a quick trial fit before i decided on what tyres to get. As you can obviously see they sit 100X better than what the 8j's did... just a bit baffled on what tyre to get now then.

cheers for the comments guys, but I'm no noob to 13's just sorting out the horrible fitment with the allycats over the winter period. The 8j allycats just didnt look right on the front. So my set of 8j cats and these are all going in for a refurb. Same kind of style to what they used to be, so black centres with diamond cut edges and lips... The 15" RA's are just my winter wheels.

Loving the bike matey, I also ride fixed. I have a 1972 Eddy Merckx (Produced by Falcon at the time) and I ride 52T upfront with 16T at the back, not good hille but awesome on the flat and good for the calves! I also have a 1980's Peugeot that I converted to single speed and i run 48 front, 14 back.

we should indeed haven't been on my bike much this winter, stupid weather :( Not entirely sure what wheels they are, i think there just cheapos i found on a website somewhere on the net...

bar the mudgaurds thats looks real well on them 15's and as for tyres on the allys its got to be 175/50 the only size you should ever consider
