Chassis Notch for the gearbox

This is what is done for the passenger mount so far, going to use the standard chassis mount and making a bracket etc to be attached onto the gearbox :)

Lol probably! I haven't attached it onto the gearbox yet but will hopefully get it done this weekend then i can make adjustments :)

Ahh very good! Good luck, I've got pissed off with mine at the minute so progress has halted whilst i buy some more bits and bobs plus my dads making me tidy up all the shit out the garage to he can have half of it back

Not yet :( this Saturday me and my mate will be spending the day hopefully finishing this Passenger mount and get to work on the Drivers one :)

Lol there isnt actually that much there, it's probably a bit more than you would use to smooth a front bumper.

It does look like a lot but remember its sanded back every time etc and there is nothing wrong with fibreglass, it's filler that cracks! :)

There is not that much fiberglass, it has been backed by metal sheeting. how do you think people smooth an engine bay? fiberglass is VERY stong if its layed down properly the mistake most amatures make is they lay too much filler down and it cracks! since i have been helping i know that this is done well and will last for a long time.

Are you planning on a full wire tuck to accompany the smoothed bay? Gonna be cool either way! :)

gonna have to go standalone managment if you're going for the smooth/clean look surely?

liking the progress, i'm assuming you're going to be using a 6 speed gearbox with the size of that notch? as a 5 speed fits in without a notch.

Also you might want to adjust the height of your lump, as they're quite tall and you really don't wanna risk cracking one of these ally sumps.

I was well aware of the metal backing, i never mentioned it cracking either. however if your happy thats fine mate Well doen fo rdoing it yourself.

This isent a dig, just a personal observation. I PERSONALLY would shape the metal abit more accuretly so it requires a light skim of fibreglass and filler.

Nope running standard management :) the gearbox is a 5speed CTN Diesel box, it's pretty big and there is just no room hence the notch.

As Matt said below I didn't think you could run even the 5spd without a notch?

Haha yupp :) I don't really trust a notch that big lol! Lol I can't wait to see both mine and yours together at a show or something, be good to have a nose about and see what you've done

Sweet man. We're about to do my bay and tuck it, but i personally am kind of confused as to how it tucks in and where everything goes! Have you got any info?

Ahh cool :) yours cars sweet man! Haha same I have no idea how I'm going to do it yet, think I will just extend all of the loom so that I can run it through the chassis legs and then under the front black piece which the radiator sits in and then kind of extend each wire to where it has to go on the block. That's my idea at the moment but I don't know if I will end up doing it that way lol

With a stock box its possible to do without a notch on chassis leg. Mine hasn't. I'm sure you've got it covered but please make sure the area surrounding the notch it well reinforced as a 20v will put lots of stress on an intact chassis leg let along one thats been chopped about.

Hope the smoothing survives the extra stress and twisting forces the extra power will create.

Personally i'd get it all running properly before tucking the loom, just incase

As you say htere is no reason a stock OEM loom can't be tucked

After owning a converted 20vT polo with stock management / loom and aftermarket maganement / loom i can assure you, you're doing the right thing sticking with stock

Look forward to seeing further progress

Also, shallow sump is a good idea, steel bottom and about an inch shallower than a atandard alloy one, after going through two stock ones i'm glad i got a shallow one. PM me if you need a part no.
