Because if you read the small print you dont own your house or your car........True story!!!!

I think it unlikely to take the car of private property unless they can proove it has been used on the road, it would be difficult to dispute video taken by a patrol car

what about traders policy? the police tried to tow my car from outside my house, taxed and tested because i hadn't been driving it for around a month and because it's on traders it doesn't show on the database. had to park it on the drive, literally moving it as the tow truck came for it.

i think there would have been a bit of a row had they tried winching my bora aired out onto a tow truck!

on a traders policy you are meant to update every car on the mid database that way it does showup on the database, so its very rarely u'll get stopped,

my mate aint got trade plates and he's got pulled a few times drivin without road tax coppers dont do jack as he always pulls out the blag hes takin car for servicin work 99.9% of the time they have let him go without no penalties

only thing coppers r concerned abt is mot and insurance then the road tax, if u aint got insurance and get pulled u mileswell book urself a cab asap as u wont b drivin it one inch more!!

them so called immigrants r all part of the eu; polish/ lithuanian's/ bulgarian's etc... so they too have a right to come here, just like all the english who've emmigrated to spain/ south africa/ portugal etc...

you might want to look closer to home and get all them scum bags out of council houses who cant b arsed to work or have multiple babies just to get a free house or claim disability benefit just because they cant move a leg but seem to pick a can of beer ever hour and get pissed so remainder of there bodies is fine!!

^^ true, its the benefits culture it this country that i find appalling.

everyone used to have to work to be able survive but now work is now a choice.

if you decide you dont want to work the government will provide you with some were to live and give you some money to buy food,drink,fags with and the only thing you have to worry about is if you get to the jobcentre on time.

if you work you can expect to pay a lot of tax even road tax goes to help fund the benefits system and is not spent on the roads like it should.

I can't see this system working to be honest, but if it does, I don't think it would make much difference to you, unless your selling a car... I've got a mk3 golf that I use daily that's taxed and trsted all year around,I've got a mk2 golf project that isn't insured taxed or tested, which isn't a problem either... atm the mk2 polo is in the garage (sorn'd) but with four month mot and insurance on it, the only ball ache I can see is that when I tax it in the next month, the insurance will run out before the tax, the polo isn't going back on the road after that, so I'm going to be forced to claim my road tax back off the government when its sorn'd instead of leaving it to run out... So they're just making me claim money back off them...

The down side is some years ago it was said that less than 5% of revenue from road tax was spent on road repairs the rest being diverted to other worthy causes.

The government are currently running adds about dhss scroungers which appears to me to be diverting attention from the last round of politicians expenses claims and making working people turn on each other. I am sure the majority would prefer to work

So, as for someone appearing to go off topic it all may be relevant if you look at the big picture instead of your/my little world

When does this law officially come into effect?

so... i've got an LA5C 6n2 which i slid into a tree and have decided to break, it's sat on the drive, taxed until the end of the month (had reminder through and SORN'ed it online which comes into effect from 1st of next month) but i've swapped the insurance over to the new golf.

am i going to prison?

Been on the direct gov website and watched the video about the new law and it says that you will get a letter, and if you don't sorn or insure they will give you a £100 fine. But they never said when the new law will come into force.

Can't you get a insurance policy with a lay up clause in it? Basically that say 6 months of the year car is off road?

I personally don't see the problem tbh.

You cant legally keep a car on the road without insurance anyway, even if its parked up and not being used. you are still breaking the law even if its taxed. This just gives you a fine for that, where as before it didn't.

Its a bit more hassle for some i guess, but thats just life.

War on motorists, yet its us motorists that proved the country with shit loads of fucking tax.
