i doubt it'll make the slightest bit of difference to the sound, as long as its the right size for the sub, it'll take ages to make a good quality and strong box, but if it means that much to you then make one!!

itll take ages !?!?! 6 bits of wood 12" x 12" bit of glue and screws cut a circle in one.. some terminals...and you're done... homebase or B&Q will probably even cut it up for you for free.

I wasnt going to have just flat edges a few screws and glue I was going to make proper ends for it, cant remember what there called.

You cut alternating squares out and the ends then slot together nicely.

I pick it all up tomorrrow as along as the 4002 amp comes which should have been delivered yesterday.

But I still cant decide on how to do the boot build.

Either false floor with the sub in the middle.

or false floor with sub on the side.

Or I was looking at building the sub into the side cubby thingy.

Then if it doesnt look to stupid some cut out perspex bits for the amps.

Anyone got a previous boot build or anything they can show to give me some idea's?

Dont under estimate the importance of a good sub box it will completley change the sub in my opinion. Its money wasted putting a £400 sub in a cheap motorworld 15mm mdf box!

I used a halfords one as a short fix for my JL W6v2 and yeah it sounded good but the difference when i built my own custom slot ported box was immense, the clarity was vastley improved, it was punchyier and just made such a massive difference i was kicking myself to why i used a off the shelf box. For the sake of buying some MDF for a tenner and getting B&Q to cut it exactly to size its worth the effort! And heres a picture for any one interested:

Doh! i've been away for a while and so have missed the whole of this thread!

Looking back the choice of components and subwoofer are spot on, although as said a pair of Genesis amps would have been slightly better, but then again there is nothing wrong with the MTX ones you have selected.

As for the installation, make sure you keep the wiring nice and neat and sound deaden as much as is physically possible.

it was tuned to 33hz and approx 1.6cuft, one of the old CAD guys drew up the designs for me :)

I would def have some smal fans if your not going to have them in the open air, all though most newer amps come with internal fans and heat sinks, also thermal protection!

The main points to sound deaden would be the door cards, floor pan and tailgate!

Yeah I think they have fans and stuff lke that inbuilt but I was going to put 2 more fans for extracting and putting some cool air in there anyway.

You can do it a few ways, run them off the main power distribution blocks on a switch.

Off the boot light, but will not be much use as only works when boot is open.

Or best way have asmall relay built, which turns the remote turn on into a 12v source to run small things like this off, also has the benefit of coming on with the ignition!

Now I took in a print of what you said i need but I'm sure she has missed something of. I haven't got a fused dist blcok.

I have a mini power block, is that the same just minus the fuse?

How think/thick should the earth cable from amp to car be. Would it be in the box with the amp?
