I was at a police station a while back for a producer, a woman was at the desk screaming about a fine she got for tailgating saying it doesnt matter how close i was, i never touched the car in front

At the end of the day even if i'm in a rush and the person in front is doing the limit i'll just stick behind them the way i see it their stopping me from gettin fined

I've found i get tailgated alot more in my lowered loud polo then my old corsa

if someone's doing 40 on a 60 limit and it's quiet, i'll just boot it (in a 1.0 6n2) and overtake them.

Don't see the point in tailgating.

Now i'm going to be a hipocrite and say that i do occasionally tailgate but that's only ever people doing 20 in a 30, when they could quite easily do 30 (and it's safe to do so!)

I know the speed limit isn't a target but why say it's not a target and then shape and colour it like one!

A mate of mine had this, some bird in a Polo was tailgating him in his Discovery, she kept getting closer and closer until he saw her hand go to her mouth and her do an emergency stop.

Sadly don't think she noticed the NATO towing jaw that sticks out 18" behind his truck

Always get this. Mostly because I'm driving a loud and low Saxo vtr at the moment haha.

I had it when it had just started snowing. I was driving up a hill to some lights which were red so I slowed hoping they would turn green before i got there.

Some guy behind me started beeping and flashing his lights. Pulled up next to me at the traffic lights and started swearing at me. I hate it.

In the end I just remember they tailgate me, I brake, they hit me from behind. I claim "Injuries" and then I get a new car instead of my french can :)

It always seems to be the older man in a BMW or Audi as well. And then us teenagers get the blame for it.

There`s one really good way to deal with a tailgator, slow down

I force them to either suck it up and love it or overtake me. If their a complete retard I wait for them to overtake and then speed up, yes I`m a c*nt

When I drove fast cars on normal roads I used to slow down till I was just crawling in 2nd gear, blocking the road so they couldn't overtake. Most got the message after a while and dropped back. If they tried to overtake I just accelerated and sat at the side of them waving whilst they got increasingly scared as they were going faster and faster on the wrong side of the road.

I usually just stick to the limit and if they wanna be dangerous thats up to them. If its a road with more than one lane I just pull across and let them get past. If they want to endanger there own life then leave them to it. Why would I want my life and my car to be any part of it?

are you actually that much of a fool? owning a G i come up to so many things in the outside lane, i have a fast car, it gets driven fast. its the same with everyone else. nothing to do with trying to make your penis appear larger in any way. (there are things on the internet for that haha) as for the flashing thing, i never used to mind it unless i couldn't get out the way. started doing it recently and it makes driving at high speed so much easier.

i think most people in this thread don't own high performance cars (now i own a G and i dont class that as one of them) these fast cars are not dangerous at high speed. let people do what they want. bar the risks in the law breaking the speed limit (on motorways at least) is not dangerous. these seemingly twatish bmw/merc drivers you talk of are the same as the people in germany passing me quickly while i was doing 120mph. they know what they are doing, get out of their way and dont piss people for no reason.

This will all change when you all grow up and get cars that are actually fast and comfortably safe at those speeds.

Oh yeah and as for the "growing up" part, I think you need to do some of that yourself after reading that post. I have owned a mk2 gti (not as fast as a G i know but its still faster than a lot of cars out there) and just because it had the power their, didnt make me want to boot it everywhere. In fact it made me want to drive slower really, just so that people didn't see me flying past and think "dick head"

Just because you have a faster car than someone else, doesn't mean you have the right to exceed the speed limit in order to continue going faster. Speed limits are their to keep people safe at the end of the day. And even if you are a good driver, it doesn't mean that school run mum is always going to see you bombing along the fast lane to overtake. What happens when your doing a over 100mph and they don't see you and decide they are also going to overtake at the same time?

Ok, did i say i was in the G at that time? no. I was driving a new Passat TDi estate, which is monumentally safer and more stable at 120 than the G is at even 90

secondly, I'm not talking about who has rights to do what instead of others. I'm just saying get out of there way. Once you drive modern cars you realise that the 70mph isn't fast anymore - it was when it came around in the 60's. Even small 'low-end' cars are incredibly stable compared to anything from the early 90's, and these "older guys" who drive bmw's and merc's have the road experience much higher than that of most people on here.

Lastly, school run mum doesn't see me? her fault. she should take the safety and responsibility of her children into he own hands and drive carefully. Because we have a 70mph limit people assume that anything above that is stupidly dangerous. In germany (which i have a lot of experience driving there) the standard of driving is just much higher.

edit. I'm not trying to say everyone should speed and anyone who doesnt is a pussy btw. I'm all for people doing whatever speed they feel is best at that time, but just let people who's speed they feel is best at the time through.

one more thing. about the "growing up" part. not telling people to grow up. I'm saying people's opinion will change when they grow up and get bigger, faster cars.

people flash on the autobahn as well, dont speak to me as if its a false claim. i dont flash people much at all and if i do its from quite far off.

people drive at different speeds, some people are polite about it some arn't - its just stupid when people think tailgators are worse than people who purposefully slow down when they are being tailgated, just to annoy other people.

I tailgate all the time...i consider it a perk for having an unmarked company van

I'm getting a sticker made up that says "the closer you get, the slower i go" and it'll be used to full effect! I usually either brake gently so lights come on and not slow down or just come off accelerator and slow right down until they increase gap... They also get rear-fogged too!

I've seen a couple of decent bumper stickers along similar lines, "If you are not a hemorrhoid then get off my ass!" or "If you're not gay then get out of my ass".

Must admit I hate tailgaters as well, but I have a tried and tested method of shaking them off, if there is a car in front then slow down a little (creating a larger stopping distance, the highway code says this is the correct thing to do) and keep backing off until they get the message, usually works quite well. If there isn't anybody in front then I slow off a bit before dropping a gear and booting it. Somewhat childish but somewhat satisfying. Oh, I forgot to mention, I drive a 1.9TD 306 so when you bury your foot in the carpet you empty all the carbon deposits out of the exhaust, all over the tailgater. As I say, childish but satisfying!
