MK1 16V - OEM

Featured Replies

Around two years two months ago now I became the owner of a mk1 polo GLS. Some of you will know the car, others may not. I bought the car with the intention of modifying it in my own simple way. However I came to realise the car was way too, lets say concours to alter.

So I did what all polo lovers would do and a year later I purchased this beauty. A 1981 Polo N, in original un-molestered condition, begging to be modded!

I stuck with the standard car for just over a year, the 895cc engine in that time suffered the full abuse of my right foot and struggled to keep up with modern day traffic! There had to be a solution.....??

Over the Christmas period just gone me and a group of friends set about the transformation from polo N to well polo N phase 2.

It all started on a Friday evening with myself, dom604 and B-shaw making our way down to my house in Lboro where all the magic would happen.

Within the first night we managed to accomplish alot more than I thought we ever would. Here are some pictures to show the story so far!

The car ready to be ripped apart

Starting to dismantle that 30 year old 895 beast

So that concluded thursday nights work, and we decided to retire to the house for a GT5 session!! roll on the next morning!!

So along came friday, the day would bring more beer, laughts, engines and Tramp(Olly) turned up to lend a hand along with MoustacheG40(Brett)

So the days plan was to drop the AFH in ready to be plumbed and wired in on the saturday!

It is an extremely tight fit in the mk1 bay, so much so that I am going to have to get you all a picture at the weekend to show the bottom pully has a 2mm gap all the way round it, between itself and the chassis!! its shockingly tight!!

Engine in, to a certain extent!!

Then some pikey temporary bodging! like drilling fuel pipes out!!

So now its about time we stopped and retired to more PS3 take-aways and beer until the sunday!

To be honest I was shocked at how well we had managed to do everything with the limited tools and the fact we were all rather drunk the whole time!!

So alot of you are probably wondering where are my bike carbs and inlet manifold?? well heres the reason why there are no carbs to be seen:

McLovin (Guy)

We went a picked Guy up on the sunday morning for him to come back and help us understant how the feck you splice up a mk4 loom and some how make it work with my mk1 loom. To be honest without Guy this would never have happened so I am really greatful for all his help, true legend!!

He made a mess of the garage!!

Made a mess of the bay!!

If toby ever says hes going indoors to warm up his hands, dont let him!!! and that I'm a happy chappy even though its still not complete! I've got about two days of work left to do on the car which I shall complete over the weekend and I shall update this thread with the final outcome.

Hope this threa can show how much of a laught it was for us doing my conversion and I hope to update you all with my plans and progression during the future.
