9N Dipped Beam Headlight Bulb Changed!

Featured Replies

Having noticed a bulb out on my 2002 Polo 9N on Sunday night (dipped beam drivers side) I did some reading up on how to change it. Descriptions varied from the wild (bumper removal recommended) to the ridiculous (just turn the bulb).

This was how I did it, and it took about 2 mins...

Take the rubber cover off the back of the headlight.

Using a TORX T20 driver, I undid the Torx screws to the left & right of the bulb about 1/2 turn each.

Reaching in, you can feel a tab on each side of the bulb holder. Rotate this anti-clockwide about 15 degrees.

This releases the bulb, withdraw it, then take the electrical connector off it, noting the oriantation of the connector with respect to the bulb tab.

Put the new H7 bulb on the connector, being careful not to touch the bulb glass itself. Get the orientation right, i.e. the bulb tab on top, and the wiring connector the same way round as it came off.

Re-insert the bulb, and once it's fully in (correctly seated), turn the tabs back clockwise to secure them.

Put the rubber cover back on. Test the lights - done!
