Hi,

Just wanted to show what I've been working on. I've messed about with scrap and the mig welder but never touched it to a car before, so this is my first go.

I've filled between about 60% of the tacks and it's obviously not finished so remember what your mummy said; if you aint got nothing nice to say then don't say nothing.

I finished the welding and put a little too much heat into the metal when trying to fill holes. I tried to build the weld up in circles (if you know what I mean) and buckled the boot lid slightly in places.

What would you guys do when you blow a hole in the thin bodywork?

The main mistake I've made is that I put a flat bit of metal in a contoured boot, so to fix it the advice I've been given is to use something like uPol Fibral lite and smear it on, then sand down to match the contour of the bootlid, then just do a topcoat of filler to smooth it.

Is that a good way to go or does anyone know a better way?

I realise that what I'm doing is hackneyed and chavvy, it's really just a way for me to learn some basic car bodywork rather that winning ED38. Any help is gratefully received. :-)

with holes i got told leave it and work on summin else and let it cool as if u carry on itl just warp it etc or make the hole bigger.

with the filler its possible to do. but you wont get it perfect tbh. its very hard to do as itl have high and low parts.

people wont like it but if its what you want to do and your doing it yourself so i say hats off to you because not many people do. i try to do as much as possible but its a learnin curve and i feel 10x better when its finished and ino i have done it myself!

nice one, thanks for the encouragement! I bought some fiberglass filler and got round to doing it today, spurred on by the good weather. It's really easy to work with and brought the boot up a bit, but I think I know what you mean about how hard it'll be to try to get it smooth.

Plan B is to chop a massive section out and try remaking the bootlid skin the correct contour, but I'llhave a good go with the filler first.

yeah, the massive power the engine outputs it would help keep the back end down , like a top fueller, without any interior it is a bit sketchy. or do you mean like that Japanese thing?
