It wont gather in your bank, now that you cant be the designated driver you'll get pissed a lot more often.

exact reason my insurance is so high, people at a young age doing stupid things. 1 pint is my limit, any more than that i walk home, and even that pint is weak ass fosters which dont affect me at all. any more than 1 and its just stupid to attempt to drive and i have no sympathy for you at all

mate it all depends what reading you blew at the police station, i hate to say it but about a year after i started driving i got done!!!! i blew 47 and the station and got a 12month ban with the option of going on a drink driving course (cost me £160) which brought the ban down to 9months.

if you blew more than 50 at the police station then basically your fucked. you will be looking at atleast a 20month ban but they will offer you the drink driving course if kiss the judges arse hahaha.

if you go on the drink driving course ( which is a bit of a laugh, made some good friend beieve it or not haha) they will give you a list of insurance companys that specialise in drink drivers and you will get lower premions!! my first car was my gt and the insurance befor a got banned was around the 2k mark and after i got banned and went on the course it stayed the same.

trust me man this year will be the worst one of your life, but you WILL learn your lesson just like i did and if you dont then you are a class a idiot. i wont even drink a half pint if I'm driving knowadays.

i went out after work like i did everyday for a beer with a few mate but decided i wanted to get pissed so one of my mates offered to give me a lift home. as the night when on i started talking to this fucking bufftingaling girl so one thing led to another and before i know it she grabbed hold of my old boy and says lets go back to yours (i didnt say no haha) so on the way back to mine she decides she wants something to eat so i pulled over to get a kebab but it was shut so did a u turn and went to the other one up the road which also was shut. so i did another fucking u-turn and before i knew it the old bill where behind me and thats it. BANNED

the icing on the cake for me is the fact that the po po said to me that there will be cabs outside if i wanted to go home so i left the station to find all the cabs had stopped running which really fucked me off so i ended up finding a bike that had a bent frame and 2 flat tyres and rode it the whole way back to my house which was about 7milesish

needless to say i didnt get a shag

Why is your insurance so high? Drunk drivers actually injuring/killing people and writing their cars off.... Have i actually done any of that? Yes i 'could have' but i didn't, that's the end of it. My insurance company aren't going to have to pay fuck all out for this are they... Because nothing was damaged and no one was hurt. So stay off the "you're the reason my insurance is so high" route. Last year of driving, i was never pulled once, never caught speeding once (because i don't unless things lead to another) never had any lights out etccc. I am a safe driver. Yes DD is stupid, but it's only this once i've done it, and only this once i got that drunk.

I didn't come on here asking for sympathy at all, but straight out comments saying i'm a retard isn't exactly helpful - I do something stupid this ONE occasion, not all the time.

I also agree the penalties could do with being revised and definitely do not condone drink driving by any means, there's absolutely no excuse whatsoever, same goes for not declaring mods etc

but I'm struggling to believe that not one of the people who's replied judging the OP has never driven after drinking or taking another substance, doesn't have to be absolutely rat assed, eg the number of people you see hopping into a car after a few glasses of wine at lunchtime is pretty shocking. I'm not accusing anyone and if that's genuinely true then fair enough, you're a more vigilant person than myself

I often wonder how driving whilst suffering from a lack of sleep compares, that can be just as bad given the situation but i imagine thousands get away with it

Maybe I'm wrong and my impression of the driving population is worse than it really is!

Me being fairly good at maths worked out using the graf that was given that statistically the number of deaths, crashes and ingeries caused buy drink drivers is a lot lower than non-drink drivers!!!

eg: 500 non-drink drivers= 10deaths

500 drink drivers= 7.5deaths

I beleive it is to do with how the drunken body reacts in a crash. When you are sober and have an accident you will naturally tense up but when you are drunk your body will be more relaxed meaning less injury can occur. You can't just ban people for life because they made a mistake, I'm assuming this bloke is young? who didn't make a mistake when they were young? we have all done stupid stuff before.

to be fair thats just spinning a stat to meet your needs. i would like to think that there are more sober people on the roads than pissed ones. as such there are gonna be more accidents involving sober people.

jon you are right there are more accidet involving sober people because there are more sober people on the roads but i worked it out that if there where exactly the same amount of drink driver as sober drivers then on average there wold still be more fatalites in the sober drivers than the drink driver.
