Thought I'd try something different, haven't seen this done before but that's not to say it hasn't been done, there might be a reason for it!

My workbench at uni..

The stack of bits awaiting fitting is growing...

Complete headlight washer setup

Powerflex dogbone bush

S3 upper strut brace

S3 lower strut brace

Front US side markers

Haldex filter and oil change

Brake caliper paint

Rear mud guards

And the post man brought these round earlier..

Atta boy !

Haha, dual forum replying going on here, both your replies were insanely fast, it's like you're watching me...

Annoyingly I just found out that the Euro spec rears need orange indicator bulbs, which I don't have, so a pair of these have been ordered..

Ps, you know you want to come to Inters on Saturday and poke fun at my ill fitting rear sidemarkers :-p

Well I finally cracked whilst revising and fitted my Euro spec rear lights in anger...

Much better match to the side markers me thinks, thoughts?

Work :-(

Epic fail :(

I handed my notice in as I won't be in cov over the summer and timed it specifically so I didn't have to work that weekend

Meh , I like my new job [:D] It gives me monies towards a certain turbocharged red convertible

  • Author

I'm on placement working full time this summer, based over 4 hours away from anyone, but the money is going to be win, keep having dreams of supercharging...

A supercharged VR6 has to be one of the most awesome noises ever.

Nice car mate!!

  • Author

Cheers mate! Really am happy with it, although I'm still getting use to the damned awful MPG..

Right well I finally got round to fitting the strut brace, also ripped off my rear badge which will be getting the black magic treatment when it stops raining [:D]

You'll have to excuse the dirt, I haven't cleaned under the bonnet in quite some time, will also whack a bit of black hammerite on the bolt threads in due course, really wanted to fit them the other way but there was no way in hell I could get the nuts started with the spring in the way, will no doubt swap it round when I go to change the suspension...

IMG_3485size.jpg

Also popped to VW to pickup the bolts and rivetnuts for the lower brace, hopefully get that fitted Sunday

The beginning of the colour coding...

Rear Badge

IMG_3510size.jpg

IMG_3513size.jpg

Front and rear valences next, the paint looked great on the badge until I glued it back together, the lacquer reacted to the glue and it looks a bit lame, will redo it when I can be bothered

Finally got round to sorting the side markers out, all 4 of them 8-)

Personally I'm pretty chuffed with the result, also made me very tempted to rock the full US spec look - no front plate, but we all know how well that goes down with the rozzers so it will be a show only look

She really really needs a wash, been a bit neglected lately, I think rolling around with no rubstrips on the car looking like a right shed didn't aid the motivation

I've had a lot of doubt and scepticism regarding the rear markers, I think it works but you tell me, I'll let the pics do the talking

Nice bit of covert advertising for Warwick Racing there.... :p

I think it looks pretty good but then again I've got about as much taste as water....

I haven't really done any proper wordy updates so far this build thread so here goes one, for those of you who couldn't care less there are some pictures if you scroll down, or just wait for the next post which will hopefully contain some artsy show pictures or new shoes...

Last two days have been rather productive, first chance to properly give the 4Mo some attention, what with Uni exams and the lack of proper tools / space at the house the pile of parts awaiting fitment started to grow, as soon as I set foot on the driveway back home the ramps came out and the car was aiming at the sky...

Replaced both radiator fans and fan cowl

Replaced air conditioning compressor

Replaced auxilliary drive belt

Recharged air conditioning system

Fitted Audi S3 lower strut brace (managed to do the upper at Uni)

Fixed the broken rear washer system

Smashed a headlight protector - literally shattered when I took it off

Fitted genuine VW mudflaps

Swapped front and rear tyres in a hope to get a few more miles out of them whilst I search for some new wheels

Scanned and cleared fault codes with VAGCOM

Fitted my 5.5L washer fluid tank - the WORST job I have ever done on this car, there is just no space whatsoever in the engine bay, ended up having to undo the slam panel at one end and get someone to pull it away from the car just to fit the bottle in

Fitted the pipes and jets for the headlight washer system

Signed for my R32 front ARB with Mr Postman

Might not sound like much, but it was refreshing to get my hands dirty and pick up some tools again, it's been a long time and there are only so many little interior mods you can do before it becomes rather boring...

No wonder this wasn't turning...

IMG-20110621-00246.jpg

Ask any mkiv owner, this is a complete and utter ball ache

IMG-20110622-00253.jpg

Ribbed for pleasure...

Resting after a long day 8-)

IMG-20110622-00256.jpg

Quite chuffed really.. a friend of a friend had a similar issue with the coolant fans, cost him £1200 to get it all done at a local garage, cost me £50 plus the cost of petrol to pick them up :D

So... not really an update as such, just thinking about my plans for the very near future...

I'm up on placement in Newcastle staying in uni halls at the moment so have nothing more than a small tool kit with me and have been explicitly told I'm not to do any work on the car in the uni car parks.. So right now she's sat under a tree, covered in bird shit, front wheels black from brake dust :-(

So my first plan is wheels, as I can actually get them on whilst I'm still up here, the rear tyres are getting near the limit and I hate the way she handles on the 16s....

Then for September -

R32 front ARB - sat in the garage waiting

R32 rear ARB

Leon Cupra R splitter - also in the garage

Colour coded 4mo valences

R32 DSG air instake system

Late spec front aero wiper arms

Longer term plans -

Milltek non resonated cat back

Fast road suspension set up, thinking eibach/billstein combo

R line rear spoiler

Even longer term plans that probably won't make it to fruition -

R-Tech remap

Cream leather heated VW recaros to replace my non recaros

Pre-recall mk1 TT front hubs and wishbones for complete removal of understeer, at the expense of adding a bit of oversteer 8-)

Roll on payday, gotta love getting paid weekly

New wheels should happen this weekend - if I can find any to go throw cash at and pick up?

BBS CHs..... LMs... OZ superturismos, Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 others? Really can't decide.

Suggestions on a postcard to the usual address [:)]

Well I decided reps weren't the way I wanted to go with this car, so..

Deposit put down on new wheels.. None of the ones previously mentioned, much better imo, 18", 8j, light weight motorsport is the only clues you're getting :p

^^ Well the Compomotive MO6s didn't happen due to a plethora of reasons, but I managed to sort these out today...

Typical shoot weather.. Going to wash her and take some proper dslr pics next time there's a sight of sunshine!

But here is a quick blackberry pic as I couldn't resist

IMG-20110806-00316.jpg

Should look miles better when I finally get round to painting up the calipers

8.8kg or something a wheel, haven't had a chance to go for a proper spirited drive yet as I've got 4 16s in the back.. but already feels a lot more positive!

Just dug this out -

First time I've ever made noises after hearing a cars exhaust note .

Really really really have to get a stainless steel cat back fitted at some point... 8-)

Well after finally crawling out of bed at 1pm I made it outside for a bit of a drive, first stop, hand jet wash, it did the job but I was a bit wary of using the brush after seeing some daft bint in the bay next door dragging it across the ground...

It's a damn sight better than it was though, got rid of all the bird shoot and tree sap anyway!

Also made a pit stop at morrisons for some air as I realised late last night I'd done the tyres using polo 6n pressues [facepalm]

Anyway, then went adventuring trying to find a spot to take some pics, I ended up near work and managed to take a couple of snaps before it started raining.. typical aye?

Stance? by andrew-fraser, on Flickr

Stance? No not really... thinking 15mm spacers at the rear eventually, but I'm just having fun driving it at the moment!

Thoughts?
