Do you enjoy driving these days?

Featured Replies

I don't drive for fun as much anymore, certainly not during the day anyhow. Fuel costs, other people and the state of the roads primarily.

What annoys me is that the Government seems to take more notice of people like this http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/blog...ty-hurt-britain than your average citizen.

So she is basically saying they should up fuel duty by 8% per year so we can 'adapt' and lower our carbon emissions.

I'm sorry but...WHAT?!?!

She is backing it up by saying if they had kept that in initially the government would have raised an extra £100billion by now. Would that change anything?

If the government were clever they could raise so much more money through other means, but no just pile it all onto the motorist.

Thing is she says reducing the tax on fuel will cost taxpayers, but so would raising VAT? The way these champagne socialists/politicians can twist words always amazes me.

How the people of Brighton voted her in is beyond me, they must be loopy.

i really wanna smash that idiot in the face after reading that.

A report commissioned from the Policy Studies Institute for the Green Alliance calculates that using a fuel duty cut to bring pump prices back to December 2009 levels would cost the taxpayer almost £6bn in the first year alone.

maybe they should get some one that is independent and non biased to do the report next time, maybe people might take some notice of it, but i guess they can't risk it saying some thing that they don't like.

fuck it i'm going round to start my jetta up and leave it running for a bit, i feel like doing my bit to counteract any good these green twats are trying to do. i might even video it and email it to her

I've only been driving for around 2 weeks, the cost hasn't hit my bank balance yet, but, I only do the tank in halfs to make it seem less expensive!

The tax on fuel is a joke, I think around 4p goes to the retailer on every litre, the rest is all tax.. I doubt it'll get any better either, what with the problems overseas, so sourcing the oil will become harder meaning the price of oil will go up.

When prices hit £1 a litre, farmers etc had a massive strike, now we just take it. The only way to attempt to solve it would be to go without fuel for a long time until the government got the message...

this is what happens when you give fags the vote

I'll tell you what has pissed me off this week, how we are the first ones to jump on the band wagon saying oh we'll come help Japan, who's gonna pay for that i wonder? the taxpayer of course. I bet it'll cost us hundreds of millions too. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for helping, but aren't the government forgetting we have our own issues to deal with?

Rant over

fuck Japan, do you think they would help us if it was the other way around? would they fuck. its the same with most of these counties that we help. i'm a firm believer that charity begins at home, and while the number of people living here in poverty is sky rocketing we shouldn't be chucking money at other countries.

in hard times we have to make hard choices, but imo saying fuck you to Japan isn't a hard choice, what have they ever given us apart from hairy bush porn and V-tec?

Perhaps Cameron is secretly a Ricer?

I actually hate Japan and most things that have come out of it. I don't particularly like Japanese technology brands (even if most things have Japanese technology inside them) I'd rather have a Swiss movement than a Japanese movement, I despise VTEC and what's with the fucking slanty eyes?

LOL

Now now i do feel for the japanese at this moment in time and i wouldn't wish whats happened on them on my own worst enemy but yes i do tire when us as a country are one of the first to offer monetary aid and never the ones to help our own or face the situ in our own country

That made me chuckle Toby...

I like driving in general but, after only 8 months of being able to drive, I currently wouldn't go driving for the sake of driving.

Other drivers annoy me

The state of a lot of roads in my area annoys me

A lot of road design annoys me

The endless sea of taxes annoys me

So in other words, I like driving but I dislike almost everything about it...

On the horse debate, I don't mind them but I guess that's probably because I barely see any. Cyclists on the other hand...don't get me started on cyclists...

And with regards to Admiral, I'm with them at the moment and their prices are fairly good, but I'm not having a fun time with them and mods. I'm currently in conflict with them over their inability to decide whether they insure coilovers or not

come attempt to drive anywhere around blackpool. hopeless. gridlock, worst roads in britain. town in ruins thanks to the road system. driving anywhere is hell

I would rather catch the bus then drive tbh!

I still enjoy driving, I just drive more sensibly now to try and make my petrol last. They've started re-surfacing the bad roads around here, the ones with loads of potholes in, which is good because thats one of the reasons I pay all this tax!

i love driving, but i've never properly enjoyed it.

i was thinking today how i never just go for a drive, so i thought i'd turn down one of the only decent driving roads with no cameras in the area.

'road closed'. fucking brilliant.

i do hate the fact that i have to think twice before giving anyone a lift anywhere or going somewhere unplanned. It makes me feel like a stingy bastard but at the end of the day i can only just afford enough petrol in my car to last me the week.

The problem is that this government is too greedy. It was greed that got us into a recession, and now they are trying to get us out of it by being even more greedy! They take financial gain over quality of life.

Everybody (i suspect even smokers) know that the sensible thing to do would be outlaw cigarettes. But the government haven't got the balls, because they would lose too much money.

I think fuel should be privatised, take it away from the government, and just let the companies sell it as a product on which we only pay VAT. But of course that would lose them unfathomable amounts of money.

Government needs to stop relying on taxes to pay for everything and get off their own arses.

We would be fucked if the green party ever got into power. I dont drive for fun anymore, it costs me wayyyy too much and i hate having to put petrol in all the time. I'm now parking up my car during the week and using my bike to get around, hopefully it will decrease my usage by a good amount. I miss just being able to go for a drive down the country lanes by me, without feelig like crying when the guage goes down.

What i find funny is we pay the highest taxation in the world.

Compared to other countries we pay alot more tax on fuel, food, cigarettes, council tax. Pretty much everything is

higher than other countries and yet they say that they're struggling and need more money?

Where is it all going?

I'd love to know where you got that from, because you couldn't be more wrong. Compared to other EU states even, we're about 12th, I think. France and Germany each have higher tax rates. The most taxed nation in the EU is Belgium.

Hmmmm... that's a very poor comparison - effectively only compares income tax contributions for the average citizen. Taxation is far, far more complex!

problem for me is traffic,I'm stuck in it to and from work so aint hot on driving as much

quite rural where i work, and years back the lanes were quiet and you could enjoy it but now everywhere is clogged :-(

money wise it doesnt help with fuel rising, but it isnt a mega issue, with my age and the mileage i do it doesnt eat all my money

I've started cycling a bit more now, gets me fit and saves a few quid, still get road rage mind

It will never happen as it would be a very complex and dangerous job but...I think the entire world financial market should be scrapped and started over because we have all made a hash of it and will never ever get out of it, if it continues.

The reason for my thoughts...

There is just now around $70trillion floating around all over the world (most of it electronic but that's another story).

Yet the world wide debt stands at around $100trillion.

You don't have to be great at maths to see that its all to fuck!

Yet the government insists they want to reduce our debt...with what?

I love driving, i'd love driving more if it was cheaper.

i don't go driving for fun because of the shitty weather, but come the summer the slightest sniff of a warm day and i'll be randomly driving out into the lanes again trying to get lost for the fun of finding my way home again. that's pretty much my favourite past time in the summer lol, no amount of fuel duty will stop me wanting to do that, i'll just have to stop buying less important shit for a while to balance out the finances

which i guess a lot of other people will be doing to keep on the road right now, bet that can't be doing the economy much good?
