I love driving, i'd love driving more if it was cheaper.

I found the solution - get a driving job, then you get paid to drive and someone else buys the fuel and insurance

but usually that involves a van, unfortunately vans aren't the most sporting drive.

I've never found anything that drifts as well as a 57-plate Transit 130 T350 LWB.

I love driving still, cost has gone up, but I've got an oil burner as my daily hack, so can't complain too much.

Also doing my bit for the 'Green' community, burnt over £300k worth of V-Power last year at work

And there's nothing better than having the keys to a quick car with a fuel card, life is good.

P.S- I also dislike horses (isn't it more fun to ride in a field?) and cyclists who ride 2+ abreast, wankers.

I have to agree with Mc lovin, today was a treat to drive in the rocco. Lovely weather, used the loud pedal a few small times a i haven't done it int his car yet to try and save fuel, which I'm doing. I'm using less fuel than i did in my 1l mk2 polo, which is odd.

its not that odd, my car is better on fuel now with the 1.4 16v in it than it was with the original 1 litre in it. it's less effort for a bigger engine to do what you have to ring the neck of a smaller engine to do, in most cases making it more efficient

yeah tbh your right. I dont have to rev it as much and becuase i know it will move when i need it to i dont feel the need to drive it as fast, if get what i mean. Meant to be lovely weather tomorrow.

I'd love to know where you got that from, because you couldn't be more wrong. Compared to other EU states even, we're about 12th, I think. France and Germany each have higher tax rates. The most taxed nation in the EU is Belgium.

I'm a driver but also a cyclist myself (as I'm sure many are on the forum). Cycling two or more abreast is simply the height of bad manners and bloody rude. To me, it's acceptable if they acknowledge your existence and quickly revert to single file to allow you to pass, but the ignorant arseholes who consider themselves the next Sir Chris Hoy dollied up in the latest spandex only to tick along at 11mph yet still riding two abreast are beyond belief. Have some road awareness dickheads. I have to just consciously make a safe passing and carry on with my journey, otherwise if I get involved I 'see red' easily and things would just escalate badly and unnecessarily. Stupid pricks!

Yes, I do still enjoy driving. I hate traffic though - stop/start stuff kills the soul. Fuel prices are annoying when you consider the amount of the cost that is tax, that it always goes up with rising oil costs, (but rarely down again when oil prices decline) etc. But in the grand scheme of things, even though I do 20k+ a year it’s not so high yet as to seriously affect lifestyle, though the savings do have to be made somewhere (make own lunches etc.).

For me though, owning a car is as much about the engineering as it is the driving. I enjoy getting the socket set out to make something that little bit smoother, better to drive etc. To me that’s half the fun.

This is again a very narrow tax comparison. Taxation is much more complicated - what about the VAT you pay on 'luxury' foods? Which foods does each country rate to be 'luxury'. How much fuel tax is added? Capital gains tax? NI contributions? Stamp duty? Inheritance tax? Council tax? etc. etc. etc.

The issue becomes so complex that an accurate representation is difficult to produce.

Someone on CGTI forums reckoned this was circa 200bhp (149kW), 150kg lighter than a 6N2 GTI, and had a 25 mile range. Anyone know if that's true, or have any more info? The TRD website doesn't really mention the car at all.

I'm doing my bit to please the ecomentalists by working on the engineering design team for an EV. I figure it offsets the fact that both my own cars are turbo'd petrol motors... Must say that I don't really enjoy driving the EV, other than in the way you'd enjoy driving a Luton van - every overtake requires careful planning and committment! It does save me a shedload of cash on commuting though.

I don't massively enjoy driving my Saab, mainly because it's not exciting unless you're going silly fast - and then you know it's drinking fuel. It is very good at eating up big distances with ease though, so complements the Polo nicely. Always enjoy driving the Polo unless it's snowy and icy!

Agree with comments made earlier about selfish cyclists and horse riders - it's the pigheaded few that give their fellow riders a bad name. Round my way there's a lot of 50 or 60mph country lanes, and you can often very easily see a horse above the hedgerows from a fair distance away - so as long as there's not 2 or more horses 2 abreast it's not really a problem. It's the mother and daughter out for a ride together that insist on riding alongside each other that cause problems by completely obscuring your view - and no love, I'm not going to overtake just because your 12 year old daughter's waving me past...

The cycle wankers piss me off morethough - there were 30-odd of the bellends out today in formation 4 abreast on a windy country lane with no intention of moving over. You can't see them over the hedgerows, and being such a big group creates a significant hazard. A couple of cyclists in single-file you can get past easily - and worst-case you're going to trade door mirrors with an oncoming car if you have to swerve last minute because you've not seen them. In 2+ abreast formation your options are hedge/ditch, head-on collision, or mow the fuckers down. Sometimes I hope someone in a wagon goes for the latter option!

I'm old and wise enough to realise that we have to be considerate to other road users, but it's galling when people behave selfishly - especially when they're not in a vehicle/animal paying road tax.

i'm 19 and enjoy driving, due to the fuel prices, i can't really put my foot down, but i was more than happy this morning on the way to work, sun beaming, window down, music on loud, shades on, taking my time :) my car isnt fast, so what's the point in me wasting that extra bit of fuel just to get to work ten minutes earlier, although, insurance is getting pricey, and i'm having to get a second job to be able to afford next years :( at least it's delivery driving :) anyway, that's my thoughts on the matter

I did today, even if it was a 2 mile drive to work, tuneage, sunroof open, windows down and the good weather to boot, made me annoyed that I was stuck on till 10pm!

If I can sort the lack of idle control on the 16v in my rocco, then I'm sure I'll drive with a massive smile on my face :-D though having a serious amount of torque for a small car under your right foot is quite fun! :-D

Mate, you'll have to hear it, dunno if you heard the rocco before but mild steel race mani mated to my straight through stainless exhaust, not just little pops on over-run anymore, but big, rally style one's :-D got a massive pop changing gear the other day and I was grinning like an idiot haha

Plus, I dunno but I'm on form tonight, twice I've got what you're on about
