EDIT: how does the front bumper come off? mine doesnt seem to be fitting properly at with the O/S wing so want to try taking it off and re-fitting it.

To remove the bumper there are three small torx head bolts that attach the bumper to the inner wing on the front edge of the wheel arch. These need to be taken out. They screw into thin metal clips so don't lose these. They are a bitch to get back in and all the material that attaches that area is thin as shit so be careful. Even if they don't all go back in properly don't worry as it doesn't really effect how the bumper sits just an extra bit of support at the ends of the bumper.

You then need to open the bonnet. Unscrew the screws just about the grill (3of iirc), take the indicators out and there are two awkward 10mm nuts in there holding the ends of the grill surround on. You then need to pull the grill surround off which is a bit of a idiot. Clips all the way along the bottom of it. Try and get as close to the clips as you can when pulling it off as you don't want to bend the flimsy grill surround. When off this will reveal two large torx head bolts (don't undo these yeat do these last as it helps to avoid the bumper just dropping on the floor when the last bolt comes out).

Next unscrew the two screws holding the centre lower bumper grill on. Once off if you get down and look upwards you will see two large torx bolts going upwards. Remove these.

Go back to the two torx bolts that taking off the grill/surround revealed and remove these and pull the bumper away from the car. Unclipping the foglight wiring as it comes away (if you have fogs). The bumper has like teeth that interlock with some teeth on a plastic mounting bracket attached to either side of the car. Be careful not to damage/bend these as they are flimsy and affect how the bumper sits.

Refitting is the reversal of removal.

You don't need to jack the car up or anything for this job. It really only takes me 15 mins max to get it off and same refitting.

Well time for an update.

Wanted to get the car some different shoes and for some reason I never fully loved the BBS. So i sold the BBS and went on the hunt for something else. After exploring high and low and everything being either too expensive and/or shagged I found some super 'anti-scene' wheels that had been recently fully powdercoated, new tyres and brand new centre caps for a bargain price. So I decided to take a gamble.

Yep the almost socially unaccpetable in the VW scene right now, ATS cups.

Powdercoated anthracite, 15x7" et 28, with brand new toyo proxes 195/45/15, and brand new genuine ATS centre caps.

I know everyone hates cups and I am not a fan of the original diamond cut look and especially not haggered ones but these are minto and something a bit different. They also have a nice dish and remind me a little of banded steels but obviously a more square ally wheel look.

The rears poked like hell with my H&R 25mm spacers so I added a set of these instead:

FK 15mm bolt to hub hubcentric spacers. Torqued to the correct torque with threadlock as these are known to wobble loose due to people not torqueing them up enough as they have hex head bolts and people fear rounding them off.

Then the car went to Awesome GTI for a full wheel alignment. Car was the only car they couldn't get on the geo ramp and the front bumper had to come off. I was there for like 4 hours

Car drives like new again now and no tyre wear or pulling to note. So well worth the money and the ball ache.

Plans are front 10mm spacers and have the arches rolled at the back and drop the rear another 10mm to level it out.

I know not to everyones taste but meh. For my daily i am happy as snuff.

Richard i could print a piece of paper off at home that says "Slow" on it. What on earth do i need to rolling road this barge for? When it gets mapped it will be RR before and after with printout to prove the work. That's when it will be getting done.

What's the date? Do you need me to make up numbers or something?

18th June.. Yeah we need numbers but it'll also be a fun day out and for the sake of £35 it'd be cool to see what your car is running before the work for a good comparison using before and after. You know it makes sense JewBoy™

Actually like the cups but then mybe its becaue I am an odd-bod! The dark colour (looks like a very dark bronze or anthracite to me?) looks good on your car.

Think they work better than the BBS but then I would have white wheel on pretty much anything I owned.

They are anthracite and i think they work with the darkness of the car. The BBS were nice but i wanted to experiment with some different sized wheels and tyres. Still keeping my eye out for some 16" 4x100 with a good offset..... not that easy to find.

I'll try and get some better pics of my car up asap.

As for slow - try going from a 60 reg TSi Fabia (which RR`d at 120bhp despite being stock!) to a 68bhp non-turbo diesel! Thats slow!

I know what its like to drive your car. I had a 1.9sdi caddy pickup for a bit. They are slow but not horrific to drive. Never had an issue with mine. Going to this from my 170bhp G40 was a bit grim though. Remap will be in a couple of weeks and should see 145bhp which will do me for a daily.

Moar power, and bigger wheels! This is all i have to say on this matter :)

More power is fine but for now the wheels are staying. There is little to no arch gap at the front so with spacers it will be sat flush and the rear needs the arches rolling and a drop to eliminate all gap.

Big wheels are fine if you can find the right ones. I need a set of 4x100, 16x7 with staggered offsets around the mid to low 20's and lower offset at the rear or an 8j wheel out back. Just not easy to come by for a good price, in good condition or in a nice looking wheel. Other issues to address before i went silly pimp on the wheels. Plus i just had to pay for a new windscreen fitting and other crap, so that was taken from any plans budget.

Its a daily hack and without air getting it stanced hella flush (**gay) for my daily barge commute is not something i want. Plus with having more passengers on board regularly it scrapes like a biatch out the back already and if you think i am raising it for 16" wheels again you crazy.

Ah shit I remember seeing a mk1 golf but didn't notice it fully until you'd gone by. Yeah all my pictures have been from my phone. Really need to get some more flattering pics up. Although it is one of those cars that always looks better in the metal.

Car is the same as it has been for a while now. Problem with these cars they are too reliable so not much opportunity to get your hands dirty :-)

Ordered a short shifter for it to stop the rowing your boat motion when changing gear. Just have to wait for economy shipping from accross the pond.

Then the car will be mapped and just serviced/looked after.
