So yeah, they can't.

So yeah, they can't.

:D Some fine examples i do agree for me and i'm sure alot of others jap was my first love of cars due to how common and publisized in tv and films.

But there is to many tidy vags to own before i move onto jap shite :)

LOL at least Hondas are quick. VW have never built a fast production car ever. VW owners bum love R32's and Golf G60s and they're slow as shit compared to cars from rival companies.

VW will always be an average car make for average drivers. Most other manufactures do stuff better than them but other things worse, but on Hondas everything is better.

if you hate vw's so much why are you a member of a vw forum?

Oh and honda is just honda vw save the big boys for audi like the r8?

Cos i've got a Polo. I don't hate VW's, they're just average though. The R8 is a modern supercar which Honda don't make a comparison of. The NSX was miles ahead of it's time when it came out, and there is the HSV-010 GT car which is pretty cool.

Matt

Vtec is pointless.

it may be class when you hit it, but by then the boosted VW is already miles ahead. and your suddenly bouncing off the limiter without even having chance to even consider changing gear.

And you say VW dont make any performance cars? Yeah... just the fastest production car in the world

Don't be silly, when VTEC kicks in it'll shit all over a Veyron.

Which boosted VW and are you talking stock or modified? A stock EK9 Type R will hit 60 in under 6 seconds, from a 1.6 n/a engine. Nothing with a VW badge will get anywhere near that quick. R32's launch well but then they're dragged down by the extra weight.

Matt

To be fair, you could buy a standard Golf, Scirocco, Passat and even an enormous Phaeton that could do 60 in under 6 seconds.

Shame about the stupid camber/suspension making that one look like a joke,i like the old Civic Shuttle and think that, done properly, its got potential.

So your saying hondas are better than average?

Jesus, lets compare the cheaper models.

1.3 16v 1994 civic - Rust, horrible interior that rattles, crap engine that screams and does nothing.

1.3 8v 1994 polo - pretty much the oposite of the civic, including performance, non GT by the way.

__

So what that they made vtec, theres nothing stoping vw from doing the same now or before, its pointless..

Match the performance between a Vtec civic, and a car with the same BHP/weight.

The non-vtec car will get pissed on, there so overated, they fixed a problem the never existed.

__

Just to add, id dont mind jap cars, just hate it when people bum about them.

VWs or GTFO!

a civic went past my work yesterday, i heard a terrible noise which i can only assume was VTEC "kickin' in yo!" and it made no difference whatsoever it was still doing 30-40

Completely agree tbh!

^ agree vtec should stick to making kids toys  even they are shit and expensive

I love my Polo and would not trade it for anything. I love VWs in general, they are great cars. My old Leon Cupra R used to spank the Type R boys all the time it was a great laugh.

But

Honda makes great cars and I think we should all take the blinkers off. What Matt has said is for the most part completely true. VW hasn't made a proper drivers car since the mk2 GTI - meanwhile Honda has been churning out Integras and all sorts. Even if you include the new Audis they just dont have any steering feel and are all heavy and lardy. There, I've said it. Please take it easy on me.

this dude makes vtec sound uber sick

V-tec is variable valve timing. Honda are hardly the only manufacturer to offer it, even the VW Polo has had it at one point (99-02 GTi) and various sports Toyotas now have it along with the odd sports Renault and I'm sure a few more. Not entirely new,the 1.7 Ford Puma, even the Vauxhall Carlton GSi3000 and Senator 24v had vvt.

The idea is to stretch cams to give less compromise over the rev range. A static cam is either good at low revs or good at high revs. The idea behind vvt is so it can be both.

Honda, being bike manufacturers, make high-revving engines. My old Rover 416 twin cam GTi was an auto, yet still held on to almost 8k rpm before changing gear if i held the throttle fully down. It wasn't vvt but it was the hot Civic/CRX lump of the time, just before the v-tec was introduced. Honda favour high revs,so their vvt reflects this.

The polo GTI doesn't really strictly use a true VVT setup as it only acts upon the inlet cam, same as porsche use with the 'Variocam' setup, and the ford puma uses with the 'VCT' setup.

Honda were using both variable intake and exhaust timing back in 1989, and making 160bhp from a 1.6 N/A.

Volkswagen make a 'VVT' (i say that loosely as it's more VICT) 1.6 12 years later and it still only makes 125bhp!

I know which one i'd rather have....

PS to anyone whos gonna say 'they haven't got any torque though' - The B16A has more torque than the polo gti too.

^I agree, I'm not a massive fan of honda's but you have to admire there engines

Just thought I would post this haha wait until 1.50 its pretty joke.
