Jap Crap

Featured Replies

The "special" thing about the VTEC engines is the bhp chucked out of an N/A engine. But then the high revving is hella fun also.

i'm pretty sure if i had to chose an na for big power it would need many cylinders and many cc's, a v8 maybe, or even the 13b from a mazda if it had to be jap and they rev like there's no tomorrow, tbh honda have never really pushed the boat in engine designing, fair do's vtec is all well and good but meh its a little samey

mmmmmmmmmm s15

I'm not talking big power though, I'm talking 4-pot. They've pushed the boat out in obtaining as much power as they can from an NA engine whilst retaining bulletproof reliability.

why has no one mentioned Kei Cars? thats my jap fetish.

aint nothing better than a tiny tiny tiny car with a turbo and 4wd!!!!!!!!

Had a little gander over the Dynojet Avensis turbo BTCC car earlier at mallory while we were testing, awesome piece of machinery!

Pretty poo if you ask me but each to their own. I personally like suspension.

What's really annoying is Honda still make a right hand drive Type R in Swindon, but it's shipped out to Australasia and Japan and not available in Europe. There's a delicious irony to the car being canned here because it doesn't meet European emissions regs, yet they're quite happy to build it in the UK and ship cars half way around the world.

If you bought an imported JDM spec Civic Type R, you'd be getting a car built in Swindon, shipped to Japan and then shipped back to the UK. Lunacy!

I live about 10 mins from the Factory, it is utter madness that we can't get them here!

Tasty's an understatement ^

Lol what?! Honda have been the pioneers of so much. You need to take your blinkers off. You've spouted alot of shit in this thread, purely because of your apparent dislike of Honda's. You also seem to like contradicting yourself.

Who else makes an economical, easy to service, powerful 1.6/1.8/2.0 engine with VVT and can rev upto 10k easily, which kicks out 100bhp per litre, Naturally Aspirated? Pretty big feat if you ask me.

It's 'samey' because it works so well. Why change it?!

hahaha ^ this

True that - I love my dubs but you cant talk smack about vtec without being a narrow minded twunt.

You have to admit they are good. If you dont you are not a petrolhead pure and simple. Immense bhp/litre, technically the most reliable lump in the world, stupidly high revving, naturally aspirated - so errr what's not to like again? samey? WTactualF?

Its a good job i dont take your retarded posts seriously anymore

i mean yes they have done well with doing vtec and making the engine strong enough for the amount of rpm it does etc... but take vw for instance, the gti did great for them but they pushed the boat out a bit and designed the vr6, small engines with superchargers, turbo and supercharged cars, nippy diesel cars etc...

i don't have vw blinkers on, yes honda's do get good power per cc, but i'm sure any manufacturer could or have made a road car that has vtec or something near enough the same

heres an rx7 with two 13b's strapped together to make a 2.6 quad rotor:

you cannot really say vw pushed the boat out.

the vr6 is just noise, and the g60 is slow

woudnt stop me owning one though

i know what i mean :p

if you type in honda civic into google images it does come up with this though

g60's really arnt slow!

Standard engine with a pully will keep up with my TT!

depends what you compare a g60 to, but as a general rule of thumb they aren't slow

The RX7 rotary engines are bollocks. They are so unreliable. You do realise if you calculate the displacement like you would a normal engine they are basically 2.7L not 1.3 per 2 rotors yeh? All this shit of people saying, oh my RX7 makes 250bhp and it's only a 1.3 annoys me.

I wouldn't call the VR6 or G60 pushing the boat out. Still not hitting 100bhp per litre even with a supercharger strapped to it, thats pretty poor design, and they need more servicing than a Honda....and the VR6 engine is just dire - expensive, un-efficient, heavy, the only thing it has going for it is the V6 noise.

jesus i just cba now, what does it take to impress you?

anyway jap cars aren't all about performance ;)

found this but it doesn't really prove much as they are both modded to an extent

tbh, i dont care wich is better on paper.

I've been in a Jordan with 160bhp? i think they are

Been in a G40 with less. And without a doubt i know whats quicker and whats more fun.

The Jordan doesnt stand a chance.

That's a proper 4 rotor. As for calculating the displacement, using the way you would calculate for a normal engine does give you 1.3l, that's the problem. You have to adjust the calculation to get the more accurate value of 2.6l because each rotor can overlap two cycles. Even so it's a bloody fun engine with an interesting sound.

I think rotaries have potential, they just haven't been explored like the piston engine. Mazda obviously think they have as they're carrying on with them! Either that or they've spent too much money developing them to go back now

Both piston and rotary are highly flawed. I've designed a third one, still flawed but far less so,creating far less friction and drag that i can see.

Dunno where to take the design though, and i dont have the facilities to make a working model.

first things first get that shit PATENTED! then if its good enough present it to a company like Ricardo Vehicle Consultancy (of which i have a few contacts in the engine design area, also andy of PPP fame used to work there) who then have the facilities to make the prototype and develop it further whilst you sit back and the fuckers pay you royalties.

Yeah i figure on the patent idea. Might be hassle on all the different aspects, but still. Wouldn't know how to patent something but i'll look into it.

We may be in danger of sounding like a bunch of 12,000 litre VEEE 8 bumming Yanks.......

There are a lot of cool engines and designs out there.. they don't even have to be good to be, well.. good!

I love rotarys, I think the idea behind them and they can work with some tuning and forced induction is great..

I like Honda's VTEC engines, the fact that VW stuck a supercharger to a 1.3 8v granny car..

More than anything I love 2 strokes.. that sound, that smell.....

We all like CARS, who gives a shit what engine is mathematically or scientifically better?

The flawed stuff is always the most interesting ;)
