Rite bit of a update.. Took it for a drive to give it a shake down and once over before rr.. ANDD it decided to go aircooled ..

Driving along thought my temp was abit higher than usuall... So i put heaters on . Cold.. Hm

Pulled over and checked, I extended the hose with abit of plastic pipe which the guy said could withstand the heat.. Obv not lol

It cracked and collapsed causing the car to wet its self..

Hopefully it didnt caust any damage. It didnt go above 100 and hopefully didnt run dry for too long ..

Anyway getting a hose made up at lunch and then rolling road on thursday

Managed a 15.66 and could of got lower with a bit more runs but she's quite abit smokey .

So for xmas i shall put her away and do abit off work me thinks.

1.6 bottem end or internals, Replace rings for good measure, head shall have new stem steals and skim etc and if funds allow ready for spring fest :)

15.6 is pretty good mate, can't beleive nicks though, 14.9 from a 1.6 8v.

Try doing a compression and leak test on the bottom end to see if its the rings or stem seals!

I shall find someone with a tester and get it done ..

If higgo's bottem end is all sound i may plonk it on and re do valve stem seals..

Give me a reason to put a new hg on too :)

Think his was smoking badly last time was it not? Might be the same story.

I'd do a comp/leak test and see what results you get, then do the 1.6 internals with new rings etc for good measure, then you know everything is sound for the future.

Dont think I'm confident enough to swap internals over just yet tbf ..

Just more torque ? Not sure weather to run mk3 fly with it and make it abit more rev happy

I actually loved driving yours man, felt totally different to mine but felt dead pokey, sounds amazing too! Not sure youd want a light fly on it! lol

Engine is fairly easy to do, just take time. If youre fitting new rings at least glaze bust the bores, worth spending the money getting crank/pistons/rods hot washed etc! Ill teach you through gapping the piston rings and offsetting them correctly etc!

Dont use MK3 fly on 1.6 bottom end... I got advised by Mikey not to, i forget the reasons now though.

First off. Engines in. Running good, Burns oil abit and is quite smokey but going to get a AVY bottom end at end of month and replace rings for good measure and them get stem seals and vavles recut whilst cars off road.

15.6 seems to be about right buddy, I managed 15.7 with 119BHP so makes sense

Could of got faster tbf, i only had 2 lone runs/trying to get good time .. smoking preety bad so i called it a day haha..
