6N Stock steels repaint ?

I have a light blue 6N and I want to repaint my ugly worn out stock VW steels.

I'm thinking a " not punk " look but still not stock either.

Perhaps black ? What do you think fits best to a light blue polo ?

Now to the real question - Do I just buy primer and black spray paints, do 2 coats of each, and some protector in the end ?

Do you recommend to strip the tyre for the work or just some masking tape will do ?
