Day one:

despite the potential onset of rain, i ploughed on with the car! now got the G40 ecu, G40 engine loom and Mk3 Engine loom re-wrapped and fitted, with oem holes through the bulkhead. Throttle cable fitted, exhausts all fitted (but badly needs a new tailpipe - dtm upswept ftl!) Intercooler is mounted and radiator trial fitted. Sound deadening stripped from the interior and mk3 in-tank fuel pump fitted

So that leaves me with a few jobs left when I get back after the weekend. Fit fuel pump, lines and loom, block off BRV, fit dump-valve, plumb turbo oil lines, fit intercooler pipes, fit rad and plumb in, bleed brakes, mount boost guage, brap and mot!

oh and holesaw vents for intercooler in front-panel.

no piccies unfortunatly bar this one, from when it arrived in the morning, as me phone b82res is dead!

the oz ruotes arent staying on there, and 13s are too small for daily driving on manchesters shoddy roads I'm afraid! never spotted it on ebay! intaaamaresting! spent the last few days measure bit

  • Are you feeling alright Saf ? What happened to the days of bolt in and go! Great work Safatronic. I'm gaining inspiration to head over to my unit.

this car is sick man, nice buy. would change the wheels though would look sick on something a bit more sporty

polo whore!!!!!!!!!

Om nom nom. Would love those wheels for another Mark2 I can think of haha .

man i am proper jealous. such a nice mk2 and a beast of an engine!

looks like the previous owner needs a bit of credit though surely?

Was very tempted by this myself, looking forward to watching this develop..... looks very promising :-)

Needs more pictures though!!!

It's pretty clean man. Not too sure of the cars previous story, if it was self built up till now or done by custom dubz in aberdeen where it was collected from. Either way Kev had a sweet car and I'm looking forward to getting it road worthy, ill be taking it for a road trip up north!

You are up north

Nice to see a Comet blue one, doesn't happen often and you've surely got the two rarest colours now, you'll have one of every colour soon!

That engine looks mental

Haha it came from Aberdeen, a fair bit more north than my northern monkey ass! Wanna take it up to edinburgh to see the family and give it a good run, up some fantastic roads!

Innit, we've had three now and all suffered badly from laquer peel. I think this one has had a blowover at some point, as its thankfully laquer free.

think I'm going to paint up my spare arch kit back to black and fit as I'm not too keen on it being colour coded.

this is enough mk2s for me, although that 16v track car special keeps calling me!

That engine looks mental

fo shizzle, talk about toight, been struggling to fit a rad so going to have to find a shorter one or mount this one at a crazy angle!

Mate you are pretty much a polo whore but looks awesome mate, and that track day 16v is pretty much insane and i think theres a few more polo shaped spaces on you drive/garden...........

This is so nice and cant wait to see what it looks like when finished! I was tempted to buy this myself when i saw it up for sale.

things left to do

gotta sort out the cooling system this week, starting with my choice of rad, as space is rather limited, along with getting the appropriate fittings for the turbo

fit oil cooler, thermostatic plate, new vag oil filter and oil change

fit painted fuel pump bracket, and source mk3 fuel lines

bleed brakes

extend boost piping to throttle body

fit dump valve

You looked at 90s Rover Civic radiators? They only take up one side,so probably wouldn't foul the turbo.

Bit tall though, intercooler would probably have to be t'other side.

a mk2 rad that was around 1 to 1.5 inches shorter would be perfect.

need to go scrappy raiding at the weekend!

Spotted this on ebay a while ago, i think its very sexy mate ;) prefer the old wheels on it tho

spent the last few days measure bits up (hoses, rads etc) to finish off the boost hosing, turbo water lines and rad.

fitted the goodridge braided hoses but managed to dethread the rear solid brake line to the drum, itll only cost a few quid to replace so all is goood! once thats done, ill be bleeding the system with some dot 5.1 fluid.

think ill be sticking my koenig buckets and blue scroth harnesses in too

Loving this, turning out to be another Saf special :-) shame you can't make it to Polo Show, you gonna be at Action in this and terrorize the strip?

is that the new unit ? if so looks very snazzy

Whens action dude? Might be depends on if I've got enough run in miles on it. Either way should be a laugh on the way down :-)

Yeaaas it is boyo! I want more room though so me and tez are on the lookout again.

After last weeks researchin sesh, got a load of parts ordered to complete the puzzle so ill be gettin over to the unit to fit them all when they do.

Also got my solid brake line made up, recut the thread on one of the braided hoses, fitted mk3 fuel lines (thanks to o1mlacey) still need the ones to the lift pump though if anyone can help.

Arun (phataz1) also cut me some holes in the dash for mounting the guages and mounted the fuel pump bracket. Weve just gotta tack a couple of studs to the rear chassis leg for two of the mounting rubbers to finish that off.

Gonna try my hand at welding up the battery tray too, my first attempt but about time I gave it a go!

What are peoples thought on the colour coded arches? I want to take them back to black and put some gti black strips on the lower swage line

Got a solid brake line made up on sunday, fitted it today, along with the last goodridge braided hose and bled the system up with dot 5.1

Few bits turned up today,

Seal for the thermostatic plate, so fitted that along with a vw oil filter and the oil lines. Just gotta mount the cooler.

Boost hoses and alloy pipes came and they accidentally send two alloy pipes! Winner! Came in handy too.

Set azbar on the job of fitting all the boost hoses, all fits snugly
