dont wanna satin black them, they are fine underneath the paint. id much rather just strip the paint back however and then just heatgun then to bring out zee blackness.

if i do paint them, id do it with vht vinyl dye, which is fooooooking mint tbf

The turbo is an absolute winner! Love it! Only drove it 37 miles and 31 of them involved a massive smile on my face! Woop Woop! Shame it got driven to its graveyard today!

Hahahaha! Yeah man!

I love comet blue, its my favourite colour on a coupe s, but i cant bear to part with the yellow peril after owning it for nearly 3 years and it being my real labour of love, that and the epic roadtrip around europe.

the build thread will continue in the mk1 golf thread, which the coupes heart will be donated to.

as for the coupe, I'm selling the rolling shell hopefully to a friend, if not ill put the HK engine in, get a couple of spots welded up on it and sell it on running.

engine comes out tomorrow!

love this car but the next should be even better :-D

Looks a spot on unit that one saf 8-) Il be up for a proper look round at the weekend - will give you a hollaaaaaaa

Started working on this again, welded in a large piece of box section in between the front chassis legs to replace the removed cross-member and welded brackets to the box section to mount a new top fill rad I had kicking out.

Got hold of a load of sheet metal today so armed with that fact I was ready to tackle the rotten battery tray.

First job was to remove a previous owners battery tray bodge which involved an unpainted bit of mild steel and seal household screws! As they hadn't cut out the rot, before screwing this it, it had spread out under the underseal. Eeejets!

Wire brushed off all the underseal, revealing the extent of the rot, ultimately entailing in the arch liner and arch coming off as part to get access to the inner wing for repair.

need to get some card, marker pens and a flap wheel after work tomorrow and I can start making up some repair sections.

Had a session a couple of weeks ago at cleaning up the golfs old lump for a lick of por 15 before going up, but gave up as it was manky and I'm lazy!

Got a clutch to replace the slipping one that's currently on the 4 speed lump, however I do need a 4 speed mount if anyone has one to spare?

Unfortunatly I've left my phone at the unit so pics will have to wait until tomorrow.

Use steel and mig wire, it'll last loads longer, won't be as many pretty colours though :p

Made me chuckle that haha! You keepin well Steve?

Oh has the etc mk1 gone now? Sure I saw it if not a spit, in a build thread recently

Wax crayons - better rustproofing because the water beads off!

Aye all good here. Sold the Mk1 last year to Marshall and his lad who are giving it the time it deserves. My current lawn ornament's the 1990 Audi which is giving me the 5 cylinders I deserve :)

Inside!

Ground a few of the welds back and coated with weld thru primer, gotta cut out the centre section for the curved piece, and a few bits need grinding back and welding.

Looking back at the pics, would it be better to make a piece repair section, or cut out a section from a donor car without rot?

All well and good practising welding and anything can be better than what I cut out, but I don't want it to be structurally unsound. Opinions, criticism and tips welcome :)

Nay! Lamp?

been doing lots of reading up on it over the last couple of days,

got a big gas bottle today and regulator so i dont have to fuck about with disposables and apparantly one of the best ways of stopping blow throughs is to put a block of copper at the rear of the surface your welding, helps stop the pool falling thru, which is good for filling gaps too.

<3 welding, hate welding blobs in your ear tho! OWWWW
