£100 fine proposal

Featured Replies

this has got nothing to do with driving

it's another back handed tax (on drivers) and easy money coming in without much resistance

Instead of ranting on about it why dont you guys do something about it? Start a petition or write up a letter to sent to the government etc

Id love to rant about it but what were all sayin isnt going to change one thing at all what so ever its going to happen and its utter bullshit as its never going to be enforcable. What i think is what happens when you have undercover police up your ass tailgating you on motorways to make you speed up......anyone going to fine them and slam 3points on there license hmmmmm i think not

Seriously? That's a classic example of why the law will be introduced.

The point is that driving style is necessitated by the low power output of these vehicles, and not malicious attempt to intimidate the driver in front speed up.

In a more powerful car you can easily hang back and just glide past people without thrashing your car to the limiter.

Having commuted in both lower and higher powered vehicles, I know if you want to make progress in a smaller car you have to plan your overtakes before hand otherwise you'll be going nowhere fast. Literally.

In the above example, if the straight wasn't clear you'd drop back until the next overtaking opportunity.

i understand what you are saying but the example you have given just sounds like you are thrashing it behind someone driving. The only time really you need to "slip stream" and plan your manoeuvre i can see is on a motorway.

But yes back to the original point, correct, driving style is necessitated by low power vehicles.

Not an excuse tho, i could "tailgate" in my van sometimes if going up a hill to keep the revs and momentum up, but, i can either overtake, or stay there and just deal with it.

If these laws are introduced, which considering the income that will most likely be created will be.

I hope these rules only apply with Traffic Police with the correct equipment, since if a Panda has the ability to just hand out fines and points how they please, many amounts unlawful fines may, or will be given out.

Say for example you have a neighbour that likes to have his nose in everything, files a complaint, or even worse has a mate in the force. What's stopping a copper pulling up and doing you for anything?

I'll read into this abit more when I'm at a computer, but if this is a case, I will actually write a letter to a PM. May aswel got nothing better to do on these nights ha.

cant see this new rule being a good one. bet there will be some pretty minted cops before long though! whats to stop them offering not to fine the motorist, in exchange for less monies direct into pc plods offshore bank account!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed that one of the offences is undertaking.

So if some retard is doing 60 in the middle lane of the motorway, with nothing to the left of him. I'm the one in the wrong for using the empty first lane instead of waiting with the rest of the motorway to get past him on the right?

yes. you are

But on the plus side, raising the motorway to limit to 80 seems like a logical idea.

The amount of people I see driving on the phone, they don't get caught so I can't see how you'd enforce this. The Australian law of being in an overtaking lane but not overtaking makes sense.

The Highway Code states that you should always be in the inside lane unless overtaking but the Highway Code is more advice rather than actual law. Shame really. It'll end up being like the US where everyone in every lane does 60 on the freeway :(

in the eyes of the law, you're in the wrong.

i undertook someone who was in the "fast" lane because there was a much larger gap in the middle lane so i accelerated upto the car infront and then overtook him, undertaking the tosser in the Audi in the outside lane who then thought they'd give me the finger - if SHE was in the correct lane, i wouldn't have been able to undertake.

Use the road efficiently and there'll be less accidents and we'll all get to where we want to be faster.

Also, i'm sure i've seen somewhere that the left hand "slow" lane is the least used lane with only about 40% of traffic actually using it.

I'm innocent until proven guilty, and I'm issued fines by a judge. Always have been, always will be.

This would change nothing,id still see them in court.

I have already had similar treatment in the past,i didn't pay,and as a result it went to court where i had my say. I would do this with this law too.

There are many who will just accept it and take the hit. Well they're fools. Dragging it may get court costs but I've beaten the police before by dragging it through a court after refusing a fine, and i'll do it again.
