Well....I'm scrapping the turbo idea, as i have stumbled upon a bargain... A set of gsx 600 carbs, off a 1.4 8v 6n. Picking them up friday. Just need to know, they shoud just bolt straight on, Comes with EVERYTHING but air filters, but i will replace that with trumpets instead. Straight on with a little bit of playing about...

Opinions and advise appreciated :)

I know :) I could cum in my pants everytime i drive it :) lol. Just need trumpets and an uprated feul pump I'm guessing mabye P.B.V also...Be on in a day hopfully. I just want them to get here then :)

they make one hell of a nice noise, and will give u alot of power, but mine are being a complete pain in the ass!

there great fun to have on but very harsh on the wallet =(

as for setting them up, you wanna get them balanced, then get a colourtune so that you can make sure they are all fueling right and make sure they are jetted optimaly for your engine...tbh they are an absolute pain in the arse getting set up if your just after a quick cheap upgrade, but well worth it when done

Well they have come off a 1.4 8v 6n, so i should be okay to just bang them ont my 1.4 8v 6n :)

aslong as they were already jetted for a 1.4 6n....theyll still need balancing and tuning to get them running with your engine...trust me i found out the long and hard way lol

If Sean thinks they're harsh on the wallet then that's because he hasn't seen evidence of the 60+mpg i achieved with a 1.4 8v MK2 on 36's. But as i could never prove it,you can make of that what you wish.

Still,even if the other 1.4 6n was stock,and tuned on a RR, that's not to say yours wont need fine-tuning on a RR to get them optimum. No two engines are the same.

How would i not need uprated fuel pump, i thought the demand for fuel would be greater, there for needing more fuel pushed through?

I found bike carbs easy. But then I've been into mechanical engineering,fabrication,design and build,hydraulics and pneumatics in industry for years (cant deal with computers to save my life,though).

From anyone's perspective,bike carbs are not a simple bolt-on job.

But if you're confident of doing a custom/unique turbo conversion then you're probably more than competent enough.

Well since i can remember i have been working on cars and i also did a 2year course at college on mechanics and diagnostics etc...I have no clue what "exactly" to do...But i have a rough idea and IMO i think that with common sence and the knowledge i have i should be okay... If i get stuck then i know who to ask, especially if your in MK also

The demand for fuel is not relevant to the original fuel system on the MK2 and you'd use that set-up,as yours is for injection and needs a lot changing.

Yes I'm happy to have a look at the motor and give you a few pointers - but only when you've done some homework first,and read what myself and others have already taken the time to write,and can show that you've read-up by having more than some personal theories on a confused view of the original systems you're dealing with.

There's no need for a updated fuel pump is there I thought you need a fuel pressure regulator to drop the psi to around 3. And as mikey says its probably best to get them set up properly on a RR I mean what's the point in going to all that trouble fitting them if they are not set up correctly for your engine, you may as well take them to be set up.

I'm putting them on a mk4 also, what did you do for a manifold? did they bolt straight in place after you took off the standard inlet manifold? you got as pic of how it looks?

Ill take some pics so you can see what it look like and the manifold was easy really i was lucky and got the manifold with the carbs but i need too use some instant gasket too seal it as the inlet manifold gaskets are single ones and dont seal right with my manifold. But like i say i ent got a clue how to wire it all up lol

I was going to take all my inlet off today and strip it down so i can get the manifold made up, but it is raining here so my day off has gone to shit

Whats the difference with normal setup and the mk2 setup?

its raining here aswell not good :( i believe you have too use the mk2 polo setup as it has a vacuum dizzy and a ignition amp but dont quote me on that i just got it all together when i brought my complete setup but like i keep saying i have not got the slightest idea how to wire it all up

What are the wires going to your carbs?

My old set of bike carbs had no wires :/

They start on che carbs like this...

Then join into one set of wires like so...

Then split into seperate wires again, with connecters on

I'm saying the little black wire is the earth on the battery

Any ideas/help?
