Air filter

Featured Replies

I'm looking to fit a cone filter to my Mk 4 polo 1l but i'm kind of new to all of this but figured this is the best way to learn, i know i need to take out the air box to put it where that is but there is something attached to the air box (circled in the picture), and i've got no clue what it is and i cant find it anywhere in my Haynes manual can anybody tell me what it is and what i should do with it?

Yeah I meant the black thing with the knob on lol, I've just been out to look at it again and i just don't get what to do cause that come off from the air box but then there's a ton of tubes and wires that are attached to the air box underneat that I can't even see where they go! And if I do finally get past this problem then I don't know what I'm doing with this black box thing cause it got tubes what I don't know what I should do with! Ahhh I need help! I feel like such a idiot not even being able to take out an air box successfully on my own!! :(

I will try get some up tomorrow if i get time, another question do you know what size neck i need for the air filter cause this is how all this has come about as I've been trying to measure it to get one on order!

do you have the golf top hat to replace the dustbin lid filter? if so ill measure mine for you today

Nah it's all just standard as far as I'm aware mate.

you will need the golf top hat to make the induction kit, alternativly the injection carb has a diameter of 100mm, and when i did it on my ibiza i used a 90 degree reducing bend that went from 100mm down to 76mm (think this is avarage filter size) altho it is alot easier with the golf top hat, hope this helps

this is underneath the air box and the thick tube on the left is the only thing i can see holding the box on but i cant see where it goes to. i did manage to get a rough measurement of the pipe width of about 53mm does that sound about right?

oh and also i realized the stupidest thing ever, mine is a 6n not a 9n polo! i felt so embarrassed when i realized! :'(

the thick tube is the oik breather which goes to the underside of the airbox, its only pushed onto the connector so should pull off easily,

airfilteredit.jpg

they both just pull off

Okay so I don't need to do anything with them? The car will start without them won't it! And I can fit the air fitter straight onto the pipe can't I?

  • 1 year later...

I swapped the stock airbox for an induction kit on my 1.0L 6n and i just put a sock over the crankcase breather and blanked off the vacuum hose, the pipe coming off the exhaust manifold is to help with starts when the engine is already warm and i think that the box with the screw cap that goes into the wing is just a cold air feed, i took all of that out ( just a couple of bolts ) and the engine runs just as well if not better than it already did :-D hope this helps

just seen the date on this lol
