Cracked Chassis Repairable?

Featured Replies

Most 106's I've driven behind crab, you wont know it until someone follows you. Our work fiesta does it but you cant tell driving it.

Noticed alot of cheap hatch back cars crab mainly 106/saxo/fiesta but lets face it there cheap cars.

So is a Polo hah?

My AXGT rep only crabbed when i put it sideways into a kerb, ahh the joys of being young. haha.

BTW, sorting the camber with shims is actually pikey as fuck, who ever can suggest that shiming to make a poor chassis repair drive straight shouldnt be around cars.

hahaha this thread getting funny now, i quickly realized that you can't even use shims on the front and i was suggesting using them if they were only a bit out aswell, yeah anyway i know joe and he's going to put the gt engine and a few other good bits onto the grey one after the grey one has had a spray or if he's lucky he may be able to find a gt shell not too far away ;)

Pm'd a guy with a white GT shell so hopefully get a response and do a conversion in that and keep CL clean :)

why not reshell the GT using your CL's shell? As in the ID of the car ends up being the GT and your CL gets scrapped? That's still possible isn't it or have the DVLA introduced more new laws?

I'd not even consider repairing that damage (not on a mk3 polo anyway which lets face it, arent exactly hard to come by), if it's been hit hard enough to do that then the shell will be well bent in other areas you've not even noticed yet. Have seen ones with much less damage with rippled roofs.

If I'm reading you right that technically would involve 'ringing' the car. As you would have to remove and swap the VIN plates for that to happen. Which is not legal... iirc.

I was going to reshell my CL but insurance would be more as it always would be classed as a Cl with GT running Gear. so its classed as a major modification and been 19 it doesnt go down to well. insurance on a converted Cl is £1700 or for a genuine GT £800 thats more than half !!! :) so £150 for a shell and i be still saving :) :) :)

doing a bit more reading on it yes I don't think there is a way of doing it legally without ending up on a Q-plate, so I'm wrong there.

I'd still go for the reshell route though, just have to leave as the CL's identity. If insurance is too much this way then I'd just break that GT unless anyone else is crazy enough to want to buy it to repair it.

surely a GT shell with log book etc fro £150 and do a conversion and have a genuine GT is better than killing a CL in a way. but would love the engine in my current Cl shell as i like that grey colur and for some reason i like my reg plate but cant justify paying double insurance. ideally want the GT as a bit more HP and a 5 box where cl has 4 and eats fuel.

If it was me I'd re-shell into the GT, if its the shell from the cars breaking section on here it looked tidy. You can always sell the cl on once you've done the GT and get some money back there that you would of lost if you put every thing into that

oh if there's a gt shell available for £150 then definitely go for that, no brainer really.
