That's a shame, I doubt I'll ever do this though, I'm too busy cursing at the person in front because everyone here pulls away really slow and traffic lights around here are green for like 5 seconds at a time (I'm not fucking joking).

£820 is more than most mk3s are worth, but if its all genuine parts then thats a fair price inc labour and paint

Hmm, I would scrap it mate..

Almost did the exact same thing a while back but it was at a roundabout instead of lights, saw it was clear from the right but it wasn't clear in front literally slammed on my brakes and everyone shat themselves who was in the car including me especially!

Sucks about the car though James, hope it all gets fixed alright :)

Thats the down side to having a new first car. When you eventually bump it, its a lot more expensive to repair.

Make sure you get it done somewhere reputable. Don't wanna end up with an 11 plate car that looks like a total shed cause of a bad repair.

The fuckers have made a claim!! Got a letter in the post yesterday :( don't know whats gonna happen now I'm meant to collect my car tomorrow but I might have to wait and make an insurance claim to cover whatever cost they're trying to get

do you have pics of the damage to their car after the crash

Of course they'll make a claim, you went up the back of someone.

I'd get an older car until you've learnt to drive properly, save you a bit of money

unfortunately not but I have loads of witnesses and pictures of my car

I know but there was no damage on their car they were driving a Jeep and the spare wheel took all the impact, the only damage to their car was the cover on the spare wheel. They told me they'd call me the night it happened but they never did I only got the letter yesterday

Arseholes mate, people will always try and get as much money as they can out of situations like this, I'm guessing theyll be claiming whiplash too? Stuff like this does my head in, my old car was parked on the street when I had it a couple of years ago and when I went out in the morning someone had totalled the drivers side and driven off, car insurance is a joke.

Hope your premiums dont go up too much, shame its on such a nice car too, I was looking into a 6R GTI on finance a few months back  no chance.

Keep your wits about you on the road when youre back on it, these kind of crashes happen all the time.

Apparently the car I went into was a hire car (just my luck). Just called my insurance company up and sorted it all out. Anyway on the bright side of things I'm picking up my car tonight and it should be on display at the GTI Festival on Sunday. Ran a few quotes and my insurance is gonna go up by £800 then what it would have been although that's without going on my Dad's multi-car which is what I did for the policy I'm on and that made it fall from £4000 to £2700 so hopefully I won't be looking at too much over a grand next year

A grand next year? Your joking right? My premium has increased every year for the last two, and thats with NEVER claiming in 9 years of driving.

Unfortunatley I'm going to say its both uninsured and young drivers who cause accidents that are also increasing premiums. A friend of a friend killed himself and put an innocent woman, who he crashed into in hospital, the other week, less than a week after he passed his test. So to blame people who are 'victims' is wrong. In the end you made an error in judgement costing the rental company money (however little) and inconvinience.

I know I understand it was my fault but its just annoying that it was a rental care as I would have paid for the cost privately

Anyway got the car back today the grill looks good I'll post a picture up when I can get a shot in daylight

Looks good but get rid of the GTi badge!

Looks good but get rid of the GTi badge!

I will do don't worry! Just gotta get a badge to replace it with first as it leaves a scar in the plastic. I'll probably get a 1.2 one and spray it black then replace it

What about an HTP badge from a Fabia? Same as the TSI one - just HTP instead. Either that or a Golf FSI badge?

Did a bit of carbon wrapping today, took Hurdy's idea from his GTI and wrapped the fog surrounds, also shoddily did the GTI badge as I didn't remove it, should be getting the VW badge done tomorrow hopefully!

Let me know what you think this is the first time I've carbon wrapped anything
