Quick update on this - despite sending off the relevant forms to have the van reclassified we got a log book saturday morning - still stating NHS Nil tax.

The hospital have sent off the tax disc sorning it until June 2012.

So I think now the only way we can tax it is if we take the paperwork to our local DVLA office and they change the classification there and then? Its so complicated - also insurance on this bloody van is so expensive its going to cost an arm & a leg to get this on the road just so we can test drive it to a few festies and decide if its what we need.

Grrr!!

I think high insurance is just tagged with vans as the insurers don't know what you're going to be carrying in there.

Mine's pretty cheap on the Tango Transit. A lot of it goes down to declared use. If it's insured just for personal use, it'll be pricey, if you've got a "safe" occupation, and insure it for commercial use, it's pretty reasonable.

Ah, that's a pretty clever way of going about it.

van insurance is weird i wanted a little suzki jimmy 1.3 cos i thought insurance would be cheap, ended up getting a quote on a 1.9 transit, bigger faster van what i could of made more money off for £1000 less then the jimmy

Yeh, my Rascal van was stupidly expensive on a commercial policy. I told them I just wanted it to take the dog to the beach and that and they did a quote for Socal, Domestic and Pleasure which was dirt cheap though, weird.

Possibly, though in my case I use it for my work anyway. 8-)

Its now insured with direct line - they want £70 a month! Far cheaper than anyone else. The policy wording needs to be checked and made sure its correct but if it ends up being used for work it'll be put on their policy anyway. Currently its on social domestic & pleasure (as well as comuting to one place of work).

Further down the line and the 5 year plan it may well end up as commercial insurance but for now I think I'll leave it as it is!

I've got an LDV convoy and I'm paying insane insurance at £1500 a year on direct line this is just for social ue not commercial. If i change it over to commercial on a safe occupation then it should go down?

Note: FIAT = Fix It Again Tomorrow =D

Yeh but how old are you?

The vans got 5 yrs no claims discount being used on it, a 23 yr old driver whos been driving large engined cars/vans for the past 3 years.

Also the milage is set to around 8000 on the policy as well as being parked overnight on a prive driveway.

and an LDV's any better?

Wait til your tie rods get play in and you end up looking like you're canoeing trying to drive in a straight line like our old one.
