I think we should have an 'MOT' for horses, verifying their safety on the road!

Horses are more powerful, heavier, and more dangerous than your average 125cc bike...

It would include:

-Horse shoe checks (condition/tread depth)

-Emissions test (lol)

-Spook test (to check how likely the horse is to freak/become a danger on the road)

-Steering check

-Swerve test

Any animals found to have been pinfired would be an automatic failure.

It would also be compulsory for riders to take an Equestrian CBT in order to ride an MOT'd horse on the road.

I don't see why ped users have to pay road tax (although a pittance), insurance, and prove the safety and proficiency of themselves

& the motorcycle but horses use the road scott free.

My 2cents.

scene horses, horses arent a status symbol at all, I've got 5 horses and in no way are we upper class..

meatloaf really boils my piss with his persistant bull, or in this case, horse shit.

Guy you hit the nail on the head!

Problem is you will get illegal horse mechanics who will stamp the book if you slip them a bit more cash ;) just like with with cars :')

I heard there trying to tax push bikes on the road aswell :/ pretty gay i think

as there on the road surely they are liable to road tax.and maybe fuel duty?

methane rich manure doesnt help the planet,so that haylage they eat needs taxation

unless they declare the horse SORN,which avoids the above costs.

They are massive meals on no wheels.

This is an epic thread and meatloaf, you are the napoleon dynamite of club polo!

Infact you are 2011s BSJ1!

fuck that give the horse a good slap and see if the rider can stay on

My word, another polarising thread, and about horses?

My tupence then. Not all horse riders are snobs, many of the young (gigedy) girls who ride around my painfully middle class area are happy to be paid for shovelling shit by riding a horse. However, I can't tolerate 'The Hunt' when its out. Partly because I'm a vegematarian and don't agree with hunting for sport (there's your snobs) but primarily because of all the fecking horses being spanked into submission and bolting through gates over the road. Also, the blood thirsty hangers on are a menace too, with their 4x4s lined up along the side of bendy b-roads.

Of course there are the bellends that ride two abreast, or even worse the silly bitches who try badly to control two horses at once, taking up the road with one poorly contolled horse that wants to go in every direction bar the desired one! I did come across a couple of toffs the other day though (i could tell this from their hunting attire) that were riding two abreast towards me, taking their time to move across and not even aknowledging me. In these type of inconsiderate situations I would (if i had a worthy car) drop it into 2nd and blast away. I console myself with the fact that the horse should be ok, but the rider is likely to have a scare at the least!

However, horses arent the only menace on the roads; cyclists who travel in wide packs like its the tour de oxfordshire along the b-roads. Idiots who have no concept as to the size of their oversized german saloon, boy racers who see every piece of tarmac as the hanger straight at silverstone, old folk who drive at you in the middle of the road etc. etc. There's plenty of dangers on the road, but people seem to like taking a pop at horses in particular. Maybe its because outsiders do view them as a status symbol (like 4x4 etc). In the end, horses, silly cyclists, boy racers and all the other 'idiots' that are stereotyped in our minds will use the road. We may as well try to get along or the roads are going to turn into battlefields! Lets try to be a little considerate and tolerant of each other please.

However, I will agree wih some of the above posts. Just because you may have a family member who rides a horse, or might know someone with a rear wheel drive car, or might have seen stretched tyres and have drawn conclusions from all of these life changing events, you are no guru on such subjects. As before, stick to topics regarding cleaning your car and moaning about birds shitting on it. Gain some experience on the roads and with your car, sit back and read what people have to say before announcing your idealistic views.

Everyone is haveing a 'pop' at horses because this thread is about horses... i'm sure people would have alot to say about cyclists/pedstrians/van drivers/learner drivers if there was a thread for it.

I must admit, now this probably makes me an evil person, I'll happily creep past at 5mph on the opposite side of the road, but seem to have developed a tendency where if they don't thank me or at least acknowledge the fact that I've gone out of my way just so they can ride, sometimes two abreast, on what is usually a pretty busy road, I will happily drop to 1st and give them some VR6.

 <3

Prankster, the only point I can make out in that post are 'only toffs that ride horses are bad' and you obviously haven't read all the threads posted on here in the past about incompetent old drivers, stupid cyclists and dangerous boy racers.

As for that last paragraph, I honestly can't make head nor tail of it. If your trying to make the point I think your trying to make then I don't see why anyone would have to be a guru on horses to be able to see how stupid an idea it is to use them on the road, common sense and not being blinded by a love for horses is enough.

No no, I have read most of the threads where people moan about cyclist etc, just the horse issue tends to really polarise peoples opinions. However, some of the arguments are pretty weak from some folk, generally saying all horse riders are rich, horses as status symbols etc. I'm sure some people, as always, are posting threads or replying to them to have a keyboard warrior session. I was only making the point that people sometimes need to be a little more accepting about other people on the road, regardless of what they are riding (I distinctly remember a thread on here some time ago with some boy moaning about ALL other road users, regardless of transport mode). Not a dig, agreeing with any point of view but generally sitting on the fence.

And regarding the last paragraph, it was in response and agreement with some people who were making comments towards a particular user (and people in general) who feel they need to make a comment about EVERY thread posted on this site, regardless of lack of knowledge in the given area.

Yeah it was me that said that horses are used as a status symbol

And I still stand by that, not every horse and of cause there are still working horses about too, but people do without question use them as a status symbol. I had an ex that had a horse and from what I could make out this was the only reason she had one, to get one over on the other girls as it were. Daddy had some money so she had to have a horse, she had no where to ride it and had to keep it at some one else's stables as they lived in a terraced house with a small patio'ed back garden but that didn't stop her getting a horse and then riding it around the roads with her other mates that thought they were some thing they weren't. She was a good fuck tho so I kept my opinions on the horse to myself.

No discussion needed, everyone knows that van drivers are nice people.

You have to pick up after your dog so why not apply the same rules?

How hard is it to put a shit bag on a horses arse?

But if it was up to me id ban them from the roads all together

If your pet pooch craps on the road/footpath and you don't pick it up you face a fine upto £1000 yet a horse can dump a far greater amount of crap and nothing is done! even the local plod horses are allowed to dump on the roads around the shopping centre in MK

Used to get this around one of the compunds I deliverred into. The fox wasn't stupid though, he soon learnt that if he got in the compound, there was no way they were going to let 60 dickheads on horses follow him. Horses don't like going nose to nose with a car transporter.

Personally, I have no qualms about killing foxes. I've seen what one will do to a field of young cattle just for sport, they need their levels keeping down. I've shot and run over loads, but the fox is just doing what nature programmed it to do, so there's no reason it should suffer. The average hunt will be out all day, terrorise one and normally not suceed in kiling it. What's the point?

would you eat vegetables fertilised by dog shit...

I think it's this view that pisses me the most. Dog shit stinks for starters. It's normally on path ways or public parks because that is where most are walked. These areas are also likely to be frequented by Joe public who doesn't want to be surrounded or be in contact with said dog shit. Also, dog shit is easy to miss and thus easy to step in. It will also make you blind if in contact with eyes etc. It's fairly rank stuff due to dogs having a fairly basic diet of meat.

Horses shite on the other hand tends to be in the middle if a road, where Joe public had no business being unless staggering around. It also comes in huge piles, so quite easy to avoid. Finally, it's not quite as disgusting or 'toxic' as dog shit either. There happens to be a fair fewer amount of horses compared to dogs too, so less shot to cone into contact with.

thats the most interlectual reply I've ever seen talking (about) shit

fewer horses but they crap much more than dogs do, 1 horse crap must equal about 15 dog turds, so my guess is it evens out :)
