You can get insurance for a reasonable price. Its something i would do as its an expensive piece of kit, with lenses too.

From what I've heard dslrs can be surprisingly robust things (the body obviously not so much the lenses..)

I watched about 10 seconds of the first video before wanting to kill the guy presenting it so be warned, but if you can get past that it's probably fairly interesting.

My mate's got a Canon EOS 550D, he got the American or Japanese model, Kiss x4? Which saved him a good few hundred quid, I've barely used it but he's taken some pretty impressive pics so far considering he hasn't had it long and this is just amateur level stuff

Myself, I recently picked up a Sony Alpha NEX 3, I give it 10 minutes before the dslr purists poke fun, but it is a very capable piece of kit and I've been really pleased with it so far, it'll take full dslr lenses too with the right adaptor, the best thing is with the pancake lens attached it will just about go in a pocket, okay it's still no compact, but I'd like to see you fit a dslr in your pocket, regardless of the choice of lens

I just dug my parents olympus e-500 have no idea how to use it but i have the instructions here to read.

Does anyone have any good dslr tutorials i could look at to learn the basics? I learnt what iso's are today! i know basic. Ages ago i saw people messing about with tone art. Is this effect done by the camera or something done on photoshop? I've seen the new olympus has this feature.

Might buy the same camera my olds have as there going for100-200 was 600quid 4 or 5years ago

I'm pretty pleased with mine.. but you really can't compare them to a full dslr, really depends what the OP is after tbh!

Canon 550D is one of the best you can get out there at the moment. Either a 550D or a Canon 5D full frame then your sorted. Try look for good deals on

Cant speak highly enough of Sony tbh. Got an a200 body off ebay last year and coupled with some Minolta lenses I already had its such a great piece of kit.

Only thing I wish it had is HD recording so might have to look at upgrading to the A55 :)

Ignore the MP numbers, they're a salesmans favourite. On a DSLR they're irrelevant really.

A D40 will be a good starter camera and it's well worth buying something cheaper like that rather than spending hundreds just incase you never really get into it. I would buy the D40 and a 35/50mm prime lens.

as said before i wouldn't discount a sony! i have an A300 and have found it a great starter camera! (as above post says, no point in spending loads to find you hardly use it!) i am planning on upgrading at christmas as i have had this bout 2 years!

Sonys are slightly simpler yes but that improves usability for newbies!

You should get some proper photography lights if you want to shoot stuff indoors. I really need some, having beige walls and light coloured wood everywhere pictures in my room are all washed with yellow.

There's no such thing as a cheap fish eye mate, 2nd hand is your best bet but even then you'll be looking at £250+ I'd have thought.

I'm guessing there going to be a waste of money but what about the cheap ass clip on sort that eBay is flooded with? I'm obviously not after amazing pro pics but don't want anything tacky ect

Waste of time mate. Spend £110 on a 50mm prime lens and learn using that, it's a highly functional lens whereas you'd be very limited with a fisheye.

Fair I though ad much yeah it comes with a 50mm :)

Samyang 8mm for £200, i got one the other day and its very very close to the sigma fisheyes which are about £200 more.
