lmao is that papiermache

in russia papiermache is considered an excellent alternative to metal.

In soviet russia, paper mache-s you!

THe capri and the jet 1 they made were decent, everything else was shocking, especially the mk2 :/.

Chopping springs

What a supprise - they jack the car up and the sping wiggles around

I've had lowering springs that wobble around when jacked up too. So what if the spring 'wobbles' about when jacked up? On a coil over shock style of suspension like on polo's the spring is going absolutely nowhere, it can't as it has a shock running straight through it.

Besides I could go out side now and lop a coil off each of my springs and they will still seat properly and be held tightly in place when the car is jacked up. The only effect this will have on the car is a subtle lowering and stiffen up the ride slightly.

But then again I'm only going off personal experience rather than some YouTube clip so what do I know...

If that wasn’t noticed at santapod and when they went to the track with it to give it to martin kemp

If the spring popped out of where it was sitting after a high speed dip (yeno like down the dual carriage ways sometimes you hit a slight bump but speeds means you feel it like mad)

Wouldn’t this give a possibility of tyre hitting the arch . pulling that car to one side or something?

They made sure it stayed in with threaded rod and clipped up the sides of the spring I think

Going on what they done on a porche – supercharged I think it was to 290 bhp without changing anything else – old engine with old parts and baum they melt the headgasket on the first run I don’t know if this is for the show but them chopping springs – think it was on lowering springs aswell

I've got no experience my self in cutting springs although i don’t like the idea of it personally - i remember a big debate on here a while back , people said its fine but I still think badly of chopped springs

Reminds me of the garage next door to ours (owned and run by foreigners) half the cars they 'fix' end up in our garage being fixed properly, they constantly come asking for help for free, oh and vosa approved their wonky mot pit which is too small for buses and too big for cars, which is supported by old torn apart wardrobes they found somewhere/ stole. And they gave one of them an mot licence... You could probs get an mot certificate without actually taking the car to them..

The garage on the other side of ours are blatantly cutting and shutting cars.. 2 Astras go in, one comes out.. They're involved in drugs too, the same van once a week goes in, the doors go down 10minutes later doors back up and it goes, same thing every week, then a white Audi r8 convertible driven by a Muslim is there one a week too ( my polos lower than his r8 ;) )

Some poor fucker bought a car off them, wasn't driving straight and turns itself when he accelerates, we got it up on the ramp and it was two astras welded together, but not properly welded, just tacked together, how it didn't split into two pieces I don't know... The carpet must've held it together..

this countries all to fuck.

you have no grounds to comment then really

Thats just my opinion on doing it ,hence the reason I've never tried it and would prefer to buy springs rather then cut.

Although i would never cut due to what i think and also from a mechanical side of things. Mot also?

chop shop is shit, all they do is smoke crack...I've seen cardboard stonger then the metal they use for the body work

remember watching the show with the mk2 golf, where they bolted a scooby engine and drivetrain in

then leepu came along and "changed" the bodywork lol

was going well upto that point

I've just seen them turn steel rims backwards so they poke more. I've seen them chop standard springs

erm wots up with that????

I've drove with chopped springs because i wanted to see how low i wanted to go before i brought my new springs, and it didnt make my car stiffer. and you may say theres nothing wong with it meaning 'me and my mates done it and we are still alive' but a spring isnt just thrown together when a cars manufactured its designed to hold the weight of the car and recoil without putting too much pressure on other components, shortening it is making it weaker i dont care what anybody says or how long someone has driven on a chopped spring if you cut coils off a spring then it is weaker. the shorter a spring is the stiffer it needs to be made.

and i was talking about a jag when i refered to this, they didnt upgrade the shocks just chopped the springs

that golf was badass untill lepu got hold of it, tbh though its the only episode I've seen bernie put major effort into the mechanics himself, that capri was quite good too, they fucked that polo up though

i'm on my second car with choppies and never had any dramas, even MOT worries, i now drive a b3 passat with 2 coils off each corner, they pop out when jacked up but had no probs, rag it round coutry lanes, no problems.

i dont have deep pockets, or mummy and daddy paying for my mods or moderators on edition 38 telling me i need coilovers.

budget modding FTW!!!!

How do you think springs are made? Contrary to popular belief they are not grown to certain lengths on spring trees, they are long rods of metal that are then twisted and cut to size. Your springs are already chopped before they leave the factory.

How does shortening a spring make it weaker? Heat makes them weaker but if you use a proper cutting disk on the spring you will of zapped through it before any major heat will be generated, certainly not enough to weaken the spring.

The shorter you cut a spring the stiffer it becomes, think about it logically every coil has a bit of flex in it which allows it to move, when pressure is applied to the spring the flex in all the coils adds up. Take away a coil and you have less flex in it making it stiffer.

Also if the JAG was the 'sumo car' (think that's what leepo called it) then yes it did have uprated shocks because they changed them first saying that this would lower it, which obviously it didn't and they were out of time and budget so leepo chopped them against the other ones advice.

How thick do you expect it to be, bodyworks only usally 1.6mm ish anyway :p

yeah that would still be at least 1.4mm thicker then the stuff that dodgey indian likes to use.

Dont see why people are gettin into rows over cut springs  if somone wants to cut there springs then so be it....its not really the cheap option when your shocks go bang though.

like i said i know that people dont have problems with it but springs that you buy already lowered are alot stiffer then standard springs, if you cut standard springs too much they are going to bottom out, think about it its common sense, and if that was some sort of blind dig well done. i labour for my money and i dont earn alot, i can still afford 150 springs and shocks mate, even on the dole you could afford that. mommy or daddy dont give me shit. I'm all for budget modding like i said i cut my springs at one stage myself, why you getting so revved up lol... and i dont have coilovers, well done again

obviously wasnt paying attention on the sumo car. and i was only saying i didnt notice my springs any stiffer when i cut mine down, if anything i felt they were alot bouncyer. i might be wrong but i dont agree with that, dont let it upset you.

fair enough dude like i said your most probably right i just dont understand why most mechanics/MOT testers frown upon it so much, and at the point i was trying to make in the first place was just the fact they are creating cars to sell for who knows what money and not doing it the 'proper' way, or maybe the bullshit drummed into me of reading this forum is what has made me think it isnt the proper way. anyway i do hear you out and i beleive the lovin

i know

Not for one second do I think they are doing it the proper way either, some of the shit they do is down right scary and there's no way they have had them properly tested to be used on the road (I know this for a fact because the polo pick up wouldn't of even been able to be tested).

I love some of the stuff they do just because its so Pikey, but I wouldn't even contemplate driving it with any one I cared about in it

  • Author

yeah i do enjoy the pikey factor but leepu does my nut in, he ruined that golf

LMFAO just found this biography of Leepu on the discovery channel website:

One of Leepu's earliest memories from childhood is seeing his first Lamborghini. From that moment he knew what he wanted to do - make his own.

For over 40 years Leepu has lived, breathed and dreamt cars of all shapes, all colours and all sizes. He never draws or preconceives his masterpieces - it's all in his head and that's where it stays until he begins his works of art.

He built his first car when he was 17 and later honed his skills spending three years at the Venice Design Institute in California. He then moved back to his home in Bangladesh where he became a national icon due to his unique and spectacular car creations.

What that should say is:

For over 40 years Leepu has lived, breathed and dreamt cars of all shapes, all colours and all sizes. He never draws or preconceives his disasters - it's all in his head and that's where it stays until he begins ruining yet another perfectly good car.

He built his first car when he was 17 and later honed his disability spending three years at the Venice Institute for the Criminally Insane in California. He then moved back to his home in Bangladesh where he became a national icon due to his unique abominations.
