Spotted this being given away on here on Saturday night and got straight on the phone to arrange collection and picked it up the next morning

After 8 years parked up it was a little sorry for itself

It's a mk2 fox with some funky pink patern seats, it was parked up due to head gasket failure and left for 8 years

A good blast with the jet wash and it was looking a lot better but after a good look around rust is an issue on it, strangely only on the one side

We got it running and couldn't find any evidence of head gasket failure but we did find a stuck thermostat, removed it and every thing seems to be fine, gets up to temp nicely with the fan kicking in as it should and dropping the temp back down. Other running problems were a blowing exhaust (now fixed), leaking tank (soon to be welded) and a stubbornness to idle (probably not helped by its lack of air filter).

Last night we decided to see what suprize's lay behind the trims, we already knew it wasn't going to be pretty

Got some shots of the rust on the sill and rear arch too but i'll have to upload them later, anyway out wither the grinder and welder

Still plenty to do and weather permitting I should be back on it tonight. It's turned into a joint venture between me and my mums chap and is going to be more of a restoration than any thing else so don't expect my usual engine swaps and slammage

Been at the welder again, finished on the sill and did a bit on the arch although I'm on the hard part now trying to rebuild the bit where the arch and rear quarter meet that I had to cut out, photos...

your so lucky to get this! i woulda tried to get it but no cash to get down at the time! so lame!

Luckily john transports cars for a living so that wasn't an issue and the car was only 20mins away so it all come together nicely. The only reason I was looking on here when I found it was because I was having a nose on the site on my phone while having a dump other wise I would of probably missed it

Should be ok once done, only plans really are to change the standard steering wheel for a GT one and some 114" alloys I got out the back. Other than that its just tidying up and sorting out any issues, then tax and test

Pretty much finished the welding on the passenger side now, rebuilding the arch/rear quarter from plates of steal wasn't easy but its turned out well, just needs a light skim of filler over to tidy it up

The photos make it look a lot less tidy than it is tho :sad:

I can't wait to see these supposed 114 inch wheels you have out back.

Max yes it will be for sale once finished with a full ticket and 6 months tax, some people might not like the idea of me making money off some thing I got for free but fuck them lol, the chap we collected it off was happy for us to do so as long as the car lived on and wasn't just weighed in due to it being his lads first car.

looks like you are getting pretty usefull with a welding set! i dont see why you shouldnt sell it on for profit, you've put time and effort into it, so why not? sooner or later someone would sell it on for £££ even if you didnt

Must admit mate my welding has been helped massively by having the use of a decent welder, I hadn't released just how shit mine was, so time for an upgrade soon :-D

Yeah I agree but you know there's gonna be some cock knocker making arsy comments in a the sale thread about it, but they ain't the ones that have been leaving work at 3 then going straight down to johns and welding the shit out of this till about 9 every night this week, they also ain't the ones missing several rather large chunks of flesh due to this car

I also know what you mean by having a shit welder , I borrow one from work to use at home, but used a propper old school one the other day and it was just so much better. Consistent, penetrative welds all the way

My mate's after a mk2 coop. If you fancy selling it when the welding's done (don't worry about the wing) float a price over.

Been away for the weekend so didn't get owt done on this but had a little play last night

Still a little tidying up to do on it but not too bad

And started on the boot lid

Progress will probably be a little slow this week, finally getting my jetta back home after 7 months away and have a stack of parts to put on it and need to get the S ready for the polo show (this includes building another engine for it).
