Are they not 100bhp? The one I'm thinking is the GLX, I didn't even realise they did a boggo 1.6 8v. I'm pretty sure they did a 1.6 8v 100bhp model? Or am I thinking of something completely different? I've driven a couple and I thought they were all right, pretty torque-ish for what they are.. The 1.4 16v is a better engine.

If that's the case then don't get a 1.6 8v. 1.4 16v ftw!

No the 100bhp 8v was a taller engine and only came in the Cordoba/ Mk4 Saloon, my personal opinion having had both 1.4 16v and 1,6 8v engines the 1.6 is the better drive unless you intend to thrash it.

My N reg mk4 is starting to bubble with rust in the normal place of the back bottom corner of the doors so have a good look there. The only other problems I had were the sticky TB and my father blew the head gasket.

I use to have a 1.6 8v 6N and the engine was bullet proof, didn't miss a beat in the 3 and a bit years I owned it..Only work I ever did on that was routine stuff

The 1.6 feels pretty nippy for what it is, I haven't looked recently but you use to pay a ridiculous premium for 16vs too!

Mine was an L so didn't have central locking or leccy windows, proper poverty spec but on the upside there was little to go wrong, fuel wise I think I once worked it out to be around 30, but then I use to rag the tits off the poor thing..

Gearboxes on these can be an issue, but if you'll only be running it for a couple of months it probably isn't a major concern, just give it a good test drive
