Yet to be used Lol car abut slow progress waiting on my uncle to weld the front chassie plates on for the 6n2 front end there will never ever be anther polo/car painted this colour unless it's painted by me lol

right its been a long while now since i unveiled the satin grey but this year we have gone a little bit further than just a paint job. it was a last minute decision as i was just going to leave the car how it was but after selling the steffans the car just looked unloved so in the short space of just over 2weeks this is what was acheived...............

mk5 golf boothandle installed

transporter wing vent installed

widened rear quarters/arches

brand new rota bm8 8j front et0, 9j rear et 0

custom center exhaust

full respray in lexus ultrasonic blue

door handles put back in (couldnt deal with poppers anymore)

motor bike petrol cap installed

i will upload all the pictures soon and do a full write up on it but i thought i would share the pretty much finished outcome first there is still a few little bits that needs sorting like i need some smaller tyres for the front so i can drop the front back down as there is just a bit too much tyre upfront that likes to catch the bumper haha and also a good flat back and polish to bring the shine up but all in all

i dont think its bad for 2weeks work haha hope you like

right sooooo it all began when i sold my steffans evos..... i was on the hunt for some new wheels and i set my heart on the rota bm8's i looked into them and decided to buy just 1 9j et 0 for a test fit to see if it would fit and if not how much work it would need to get them to fit nicely. because i am fan of the challenge of doing it myself i thought i would give it a go but after using everything possible (arch rollers, metal bars and a scaff bar) this is how far i managed to get the arches pulled out

i wasnt happy at all the arches were an absolute mess and it had split the skins inside the arch also i didnt feel it looked right as the lines of the car had been removed in the process

i spent a few nights and a few tins of filler trying to smooth them out and make them a bit more presentable as time was running out till the begining of show season and i still had a pretty big list of things to do to prepare. then one night a friend of mine came round while i was at work who was recently out of a job so was looking for something to do to pass the time and maybe set himself up to show of his skills to try and set up his own mechanic/bodyshop/repairs garage. he looked around the car and saw how much of a dog it was looking and basically said if i want a hand take it to his unit and we will start fresh and get it done. so heres where the fun begins

so i dropped it off that night and by the next day we had it pretty much fully stripped and sanded down and also the wing vent welded in

then it was time to start the arches my mate was quite eager to make the arches up and weld them in. we went to scrappy and bought 2 front wings from a 6n2 and made a start i must admit though when he suddenly decided to cut straight down the swage line across the rear quarter i did think to myself 'is this a good idea realllly?' haha but it soon came together and i couldnt of been happier with the work thats gone into them

we then started to get a bit of filler on and bring back the shape of a very subtle looking widened arch

at this point we had also cut out a template and made and welded in brackets in to fit the new fuel cap in but unfortunatly i cannot find any photos of this at the minute

and then the same thing was done to the passenger side aswell

while the arch work was going on we was also spending time finishing off the mk5 golf boot handle that i started agessss ago and also welding up the door strip holes in the new doors and smoothing them out

Really nice, great work. What a qiuck turn around on that second spray. Looks like a lupo GTi from behind.

Just read your whole thread and must say massive respect for doing it all yourself! I loved the previous colour but the lexus blue looks mint! Aches look sweet too man, one of my fave 6n2's for sure

thanks for the comments :) I'm proper happy at how the arches turned out too they look almost standard. and there is still a bit of work needed to get things completely finished and how i wanted but they will be getting done as soon as i get the chance

the bracket welded in for the filler cap

i always like the look of the lupo gti's and sports with the centre exit exhaust but was always put off by the thought of cutting out the wheel well but i left it in the capable hands of my mate and his welding skills and cut a box section out of the well so the exhaust had enough room to bend around and out the centre

and a quick size up of the exhaust tip

once the exhaust was all welded up in place the wheel well was then boxed around and sealed. then just had a bit more sanding down on the doors to get them flat before primer.

cheers mate its funny because alot of people have said the same thing that it looks like an r32 thats shrunk in the wash haha but yeah the arches really dont stand out an awfull lot until you look at it next to a standard arch or you know what your looking at

then when everything had been sanded a smoothed off and all other body work finished it was time for primer and paint which i was proper looking forward to. i had a lot of love for the satin grey paintwork but missed the days of being able to clean a car and get a good shine out of the paint.

front and rear bumpers primed

spoiler, mirror cases, baseplates and grills all primed

and the doors boot and bonnet all primed aswell but no pics unfortunaly

and the the rest of the shell....

we then went through the process of flatting back the primer ect ect and the for a bit of paint

the reason i mainly have pictures of the drivers side is because at this point the passenger rear arch had not been 100% finished as we found a few bits that we wernt happy about when we put it in primer so there was alot of rushing around so not alot of time for pics. but our deadline of modified nationals was reached ....just (i didnt get there till the saturday so only missed the friday night) after a week of long nights and starting at 7.30am on the friday of mod nats and not leaving the unit until 5.30am on the saturday we managed to get it all painted and put back together ready for the show

so it got to 5.30am on the saturday all packed and ready for the trip to mod nats but as i set of from the unit (which is about 15miles from my house)

the front tyres and bumpers were not getting on to well soooo although it is against my religion i had to make a very careful drive back to my house and RAISE the coilovers :(

after unseizing them raising them and putting everything back together and a quick clean it was 10am and i still had a 2 and a half hour drive to the show all i can say is thank god for the invention of relentless haha

i managed to make it there safe and sound without falling asleep because i was too wired.

even when i arrived i didnt have time to sleep and then it was time for a beer so i did a good 40plus hours without sleep but heres a few pics from mod nats and when i eventually made it back home

WOW! I remember this at mod nats last year!

Have to say love the re-build.. only thing that i reaaaly dont like is the transporter style vents in the fron wing.. but i hate them on every polo i see them on..
