Starry's Mk2 Bready

Featured Replies

Yeah thats cool man, when we do the lows ill bring both sets of wheels, if we can bend the lips in, brilliant...if not ill rock the steelies again :p

Good Luck with the move :)

Might be a good idea to fill the lips in with something, might prevent the rust worms.

Nice one mate, that looks the business. How low?

  • Author

I'm not 100% sure....from what i've been told by the guy who i bought the kit off, its 80/60, but it doesnt seem that low.

and no scraping whatsoever!

Wow, looking much better than when i last saw her.

  • Author

cheers mate, she is starting to look good.

Things still to do:

- get trackrod taken off, un seized and put back

- tracking done

- check over of front suspension as its making some funny noises!

- tidy up and throw some rubber on the scalas (and hope they fit without arch work or they'll be coming straight back off!)

- front end repaired and new bonnet (maybe in the new year, but might have to wait till may)

- new carb - not sure of what would fit though, need to do some more research (maybe manual choke?)

- side exit 'zaust

- new headlights (both have cracks)

- quad lamp grille (if i can find one for the right price)

- new interior (golf seats, black door cards and maybe dye the headlining)

- ICE (dad's getting me some rears for xmas) and find a way of getting some in the front (custom door cards maybe? got a genius idea for some bass as well)

- a bloody good machine polish!

Edited by Starry

Have you fitted a cheap lowering kit? I'll bet that's the source of your suspension noise.

What's your idea for bass?

  • Author

Technix kit bought second hand for £80 so yeah pretty cheap! :p

replaced all ancillaries (bumpstops bushes etc) with new ones and got a mechanic to inspect the shocks and springs before they went on and he said they looked like they had done 1-2k miles.

i recon that the noise is caused by the springs not being seated properly in the top mounts but thats just my suspision.

dad's beemer has subs under the seat and sound alot nicer than ones in the boot, plus i need to keep the practicality of having a van-shaped car as i do a lot of seat-down lugging of equipment when doing filming shoots!

so I'm thinking, since the front seats don't have height adjustment i might try and build a small box with a shallow sub to sit under the drivers seat.

Sounds like a good idea.

Yeah the shocks are not damaged or worn out, but all the cheap ones I've seen/used never fit properly. Look under the bonnet, at the top caps of the front suspension. I bet they are raised

  • Author

i havn't checked but even my standard ones were raised :/

where my car is kept isn't the best place to do work on though due to it being on such a slope! had the jack slip this morning when i jacked up to look at the front struts...brown trouser moment to say the least! would have had my arm off if it had been in the wrong place :/

might have to find a cheap back street garage who will stick it on a ramp and do a quick check over

so I'm thinking, since the front seats don't have height adjustment i might try and build a small box with a shallow sub to sit under the drivers seat.

Pioneer used to actually make these years ago

love having a blackboard bonnet! :p

every time it rains, gives another chance for a masterpiece.

this one done by my mate

Mattsdrawing.jpg

I was tempted for a while to have one so I could leave a tub of chalk on it while I was out and see what was on it when I came back.

  • Author

that thought crossed my mind.....i just imagined lots of cocks and decided against it....

A cock would be the least of your worries if I saw a chalk board bonnet and chalk!

Forgot i had this thread!

A couple of weeks ago i had had enough of lows. it looks nice but it's not practical for what i use the car for (and its starting to shake my back pretty bad) So i planned on raising it back up. The cost of that combined with cost of getting the bodywork back to scratch and also tax at the end of march made me decide that enough was enough and to get another car.

As some of you may know, this car is now sat up at work waiting for someone to come and take her away, be it another owner or the scrap yard.

The original plan was to get a newer car, as motorway milage is going to be important once i've finished uni!

but i spent a few days looking and nothing was interesting me.....until i saw this....

bit of bidding on ebay, £310 and sorted.

Bit of info about it:

1989 'G' MK2 Polo CL

1.3L 5 Speed

Interior good

exterior good (needs a little bit of work in small places but a lot better than my other one!

1 month MOT

few months tax

New petrol tank last year

Had a small issue with wiper relay but thats now sorted.

Has a small hole in the exhaust, where it curves down under the car. It's fairly easy to get to so I'm hoping some putty will sort that out for the MOT

Original Panasonic radio (staying in for the moment as i cant work out how to get the bugger out!)

JBL speakers in the back.

Gonna be slow progress till after May...3rd year uni woes, dissertations and such.

on the look out for some RAs, gonna sort the small bit of paintwork out, refurb the roof before it goes onto this one.

definitely gonna keep this one nice and standard :)

and on a side note, someone please come and take my old one away, will be a shame to see her towed away to the scrappy!

Don't you ruddy dare let the scrap man take that other one away! Someone on here will buy it for more than scrap value easy peasy.

Been up on here for almost 2 weeks now, 5 or 6 say their interested but noones been serious as yet.

Its gotta go by the end of the week as my boss is on my back to get it out of the carpark and i want the money for some wheels i've got my eye on!

Sell it cheaper then

Not perfect by all means but now nice and shiny, bit of rust about, especially on the lip of the bonnet but i haven't seen a mk2 without this!

Then went to get the tracking sorted and was told theres play in the TCAs and both front tyres need replacing. its not stop with these cars i swear :( £200 odd quid i dont have at the moment :(

Edited by Starry

You haven't seen a MK2 without rust on the end of the bonnet? I've only seen two with it. You need to get rid of that singe peice of side rubbing strip
