DONT QUOTE THE PHOTOS!

I don't see anything confusing, pull the circlips off inbetween the two halves of the seat back and at the outside edge with a small flat blade screwdriver rotate the clip item 1 in the pic foreward and then the seat backs will lift out, job done simple

ok ill have a look again but mine doesnt look like that?

its like 2 bolts 1 from each seat and its inside a metal fuselage and the bolt has a flexible metal clip thing around it?

It's not a bolt! The flexible metal clip are the circlips! Just use a flathead and push them off! :)

Hi guys,

I need help.I have problem with backrest removal.I dont have a gti,i have 1.4 16v and its backseat its in one piece.

I have tried to remove it following this guide but didnt succeed.I have removed the bench seat(also in one piece) and released both locking hooks.

Also I have removed one of the clips in the middle but i dont see another clip..I have only found in the middle a fullplastic ring which is impossible to take out because its made out of one piece..And ofcourse seat doesnt go out.

So help needed...

If the backrest is a "one piece" then you will only have the clips shown in the last pic at either end of the seat, rotate the plastic clip (1) with a flat blade screwdriver and then the backrest should come free.

Sadly its not the case.I have same thing like on the third picture.I have taken one clip out but nothing more to take and thats the problem..

The clip and the pin I took it from..This clip in the middle is the problem, its in the round plastic and I haven't suceeded to take it out...

I didnt use to much force as i feared plastic will break. And I dont know if plastic is the only thing its keeping its in place(asside from locking hooks)?

Should I use more force?

Ideas?

Ok, had a look in the parts catalgue, and that cilp holds the centre pin in place, the pin needs to be pulled out or unbolted from the backrest and the clips at either end should be the same

Thanks nigel, problem is of course that centre pin is sitting in place very firmly(i tried moving it out) and as you see from the picture there isnt much place between seat and pin to pull him out easily.

So is the other option to pull out plastic cover (22) and unscrew the 26 from the backrest??

Yes, not sure how (22) is held in place, but bolt (27) holds bracket (26) to the backrest, you might find with the backrest in the upright position there is enough clearance to pull the pin (23) out

Hi nigel got it sorted. You really have to move the item 22 and its held in place with plastic clips that you have to push to release..After you remove it you have to unwind bolt 27 to remove bracket (26) from the backrest. After that you can remove backrest.

I am trying to put splitted backrest in..

So do you know maybe are the central mountings -item 24 ,same as Item 19 for splitted backrest??

Because i cant find OE number on central mounting-item 24,OE for item 19 is 6N0886187B and they dont look 100% same...tnx...
