GT high idle speed

GOt my mk1 GT golf conversion running but the engine idle speed is very high. Are there any common symptons of high idle speed on the Gt engine.

A few points that may help are that the engine was from someones garage and had not been run for a while, the blue temp sender is 2nd hand and also I have not wired the diagnostics up as I dont have a pic for the loom so wouldnt know how/where. I would like to check things before altering the idle as I cant see that the previous owner would of set the idle that high.
