So... my head-gasket blew today.

Half way through taking the head off but had to throw the towel in as my belly thought my throat had been cut.

Not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, just a bit of a faff with the cambelt backing plate thing. Will be sorting it over the next few days most likely.

Thought I'd have to buy a spline key set, but I knew I had one, and luckily enough it fits, so saved a few quid there.

Probably wont be able to get much done next month as tax and insurance is up on the bloody clio, so not looking forward to that, especially considering I'm trying to get rid of the sodding thing.

I'll keep this updated on how the headgasket job goes, hopefully I wont blow it up when I put it back together...

well I've only got so far, I've got the belt off, and I'm just unbolting the waterpump as I've got a new one of them aswell to go on, but what a bugger the bottom bolt is lol

Head should be off tonight.

Then I can give the bay a proper good old clean, safe to use a jet wash on it? Because I want to paint the block aswell so need to degrease it all

Got my head kit today so will probably be doing this over the weekend now as I need a couple of days off from faffin around. Works doin my head in and I haven't got the enthusiasm after work to start doin it...

Pissed off I have to tax the clio as I was gonna get a newman fast cam while I was at it, but dont have the dolla now :(

tempted to just see if I can borrow the money for the cam as I'm gonna pretty much rebuild the head with new seals etc.

So I've got the head off last night, but I've snapped the cambelt backing plate. How important is this? Do I need it?

Also how the hell do you get the bottom bolt out to change the waterpump? I cant get anything on it because the chassis rails in the way :/

Right got sorted in the end...

Managed to fit new valve seals, cam seal, dizzy seal, and the waterpipe union thing aswell.

Also fitted new waterpump after finally getting the old one off. (undid engine mound, peice of wood on sump, jacked it up so I could gain access to the bottom bolt lol)

Had a productive weekend, just waiting now to see if I can get hold of a new "UFO" oil breather thing for the block as I found this one was all siliconed up, no wonder it was leaking.

Anyway heres some pics.

Gave the fan housing a lick of satin black aswell.

Hopefully head back on as soon as I get this breather, then can get started sorting the carbs out again...

So as said, bought a mk2 gti for my daily ride, needs a few bits and bobs(loose the horrendous alloys lol) but saving money by not having the clios ridiculous running costs..

Anyway, got it running again (proud of myself) after changing every seal in the head and giving it good clean up.

Got it back together but I think I might have the wrong type of water pump on as I cant seem to get the right tension on the belt. It always seems very.. "flappy".

I think the belt isnt sitting on the waterpump pulley properly so got some more tinkering to do lol

Also when it does run, it runs very lumpy at low revs, really need to get the carbs set up properly as it absolutely drinks fuel lol
