Hey guys my afh conversion in my mk2 was running really hot and i run a honda civic full alloy twin core rad and custom hosing and this was with the standard 92 degree thermostat was running around 100 until and the fan was just kicking in.

so i removed the thermostat fully and it has only been running around 60 to 70 unless in heavy ttraffic and then i put fan on and would run around 70 in heavy traffic and 60 driving a and b roads. and with the cold weather in the morning its only been getting to around 50-55 in the last two days so been looking around for a lower temp thermostat to open up sooner so water could flow to the rad earlier stopping it from heating up so much.

looking around i found you can buy an 82 degree one for 1.8 golf gti's on ebay for £20 i thought not bad but i dont want to wait for the postage i need to get one in asap for the early mornings so thought i would go to my local motor factor Wilco as i know everyone that works there and they always help me. so i went in and asked whats the lowest temp thermostat they do and they replied 82 degrees, great i thought so asked for one for a golf and all they do is the standard 92 degree for all vw's that have this size thermostat. they asked if i knew the size of the thermostat i replied yes as i made the housing for it so they gave me the box of them all to look through.

so after about 5 mins searching i found one the right size and it had 82 degree engraved onto it.

bought it and its only £8 BARGAIN and it fits perfectly.

Asked what car its actually for to which they replied its for a metro.

So if anyone wants an 82 degree lower temperature thermostat for your mk1,2,3,4 polo and mk1,2,3 golf

basically its £8 rather than £20 and you get it right there and then if they have it in stock and no waiting for postage.

A lower temp fan switch would also be helpful but fook knows where to start looking for them!

well if i got a lower temp fan switch it wouldnt be of any help to anyone on here as I'm running a civic alloy rad lol and they use a different switch

just to add I've found out its for a 1.4i rover metro from 91-94 and they are on ebay too

ECP do an 82 degree one as well for about that price it's fitted to g40s or at least that's what most people use it for.

I'm using mine in a mk3 1.3. Just used the shit seal it came with and also my normal thermo seal on the other side of it. works fine.

I've got a 82'c and a 94'c thermostat

i put the 94'c in my polo gt over winter to warm it up a bit

Yep looks like the right one that ones set to 88 degrees so will be in the middle of the standard polo at 94 and the lower one I posted at 82

Just been looking on this thread today as I fancied a lower temp thermostat as my car in traffic goes to 100 degrees despite everything being tip top.

The 82 deg metro thermostat from ECP is £4.03 but they have just started doing them for polos at 82 degrees too and it costs £2.16. thats surely worth it at free delivery as well.

My numberplate is H588SEP if it is not showing for there model use my numberplate.

Beware I have had a none working thermostat from ECP once before so hold on to that reciepit!

My thermostat arrived today, the website claims 82 degree opening but this has 84 degrees written on which is still better I suppose. It is a mistake by ECP as the part numbers match too

I got a 71 Degree thermosat of German eBay works great.

I'd like a lower one, but i use the 6n/2 housing with plastic thermostat (inb4 plastic spring comments..).
